Inside Llewyn Davis
Not one of the Cohen's finest.
Story didn't go anywhere (in my opinion), and not worth sticking with until the bitter end.
Shame as it started out very promising.
Yeah - that was pretty pants. Not one of the Cohen's finest.

I had high hopes as a big Coen's fan.
Got up and started doing stuff around the 30 minute mark.

You must be joking. It's hard hitting, it puts you right there in the tank, the effects and authenticity are brilliant, the scrap with the Tiger is brutal, and the characters are convincing; even mentalist Shia LaBeouf nails it. Ok the last 20 mins are a tad OTT, but it's still a very good film.Only in Hollywood...

I haven't watched it yet, but intend to very soon, but I have heard many complain about a Sherman slugging it out with a Tiger - and winning.

I can't speak for the film because I haven't seen it, but there were incidents in WW2 of Shermans taking out Tigers. But it wasn't "slugging it out" - it was firing at close range into the thinner side armour of the Tiger. Face on, a Sherman didn't have a chance against a Tiger - its main gun was unable to penetrate the Tiger's frontal armour. Only in Hollywood...
(I happened to be watching 'Famous Tank Battles' on the Discovery Channel the other day and it was about just such a battle)

Bet thats a fun dinner party - what else do you hear....how the planes in Top Gun weren'treally Migs? Only in Hollywood...
I was merely relaying what I had read from another site, as I was interested to find out a little more before buying the film - with one comment suggesting that the action taken place was lifted from a Canadian Sherman unit, and not US.
As for the dinner party comment, I think you have me all wrong, I'm more of a (very occasional) Balti on my lap type of man...
I research, design and build period ship models for a living, and I thoroughly enjoy Black sails on Amazon prime. I have never once pointed out the huge inaccuracies on the ships in that, I just sit back and enjoy, so even your comments regarding Top Gun are misplaced. Sorry.

I agree with all you are saying, but the last 20 or so minutes ruined the film for me.When the boy ran up the road to play look out and he saw the regiment of German soldiers marching towards them, the Germans were well armed with lots of them carrying RPG's. But, the final battle with the dead tank went on for hours, going from day to night, but nobody thought to loosen off a few RPG's at the tank?!
Plus, within the tank you'd be in a constant blind spot, how in pitch black (except for a few burning houses etc), would you see somebody sneaking up and sticking some explosives under the tank?
And the final scene where the lad is spotted, but his arch enemy says nothing... come on that's stretching it too far.
So near, yet so far for me as I really wanted to enjoy this.
Oldboy
The remake by Spike Lee with Josh Brolin. Came away from it thinking that was a bit odd; a pantomime villain, fight scenes where you can see people waiting for their cue or just flapping about in the background, and a storyline/premise which started off OK and then went downhill quickly to the point where most people wouldn't have given a monkeys.
To balance this ViewLondon said "solidly entertaining thriller", though not sure if "solidly" is faint praise.

I reckon you'll enjoy it, blame me if you don't. Honestly it feels like the actors literally lived in that tank. I can still hear LaBeouf screaming "on the way!"Bullett said:
But Oddball is commanding a post-war Yugoslavian E4 Sherman with the higher velocity 76mm gun anti-tank gun (which was fitted to later WWII Shermans). So............er...................yeah, so don't hit me with them negative waves so early in the morning. .
