According to a relative who lives in Harare Mugabe is under siege in his residence by the Army with no-one allowed to enter or leave. It's believed they are wanting him to stand down. Interesting times.

They've just named the airport there after him. They'll have to change it back.

Twitter has lit up in the past hour with reports that Mugabe is gone and the country is now under military control.

He's not far from 100, so unlikely to have the energy or skills left to fend them off if the military is determined to get rid of him and get their hands on the riches.

What riches? Zim is fked, the Zanu zombies have looted everything worth looting and there's so little money that the government can barely pay the police and army, which is possibly why it's kicking off.

Zimbabwe has huge reserves of platinum and other valuable resources.

Just take a look at Mugabe's sons on social media and their $50,000 watches dipped in $500 bottles of champagne. There are huge riches available to whomever takes over at the top.

Mugabe kicked out his army-friendly Vice President a few weeks ago, his wife tried to assassinate that VP, she is due to be made the new VP next month, and will replace Mugabe when he croaks. The army are cheesed off they lost a key ally, and they don't wanna be ruled by a woman. That's the main reason for the attempted coup.

@zanu_pf on Twitter (unverified)

“Last night the first family was detained and are safe, both for the constitution and the sanity of the nation this was necessary. Neither Zimbabwe nor ZANU are owned by Mugabe and his wife. Today begins a fresh new era and comrade Mnangagwa will help us achieve a better Zimbabwe.”

eek it’s really the end of Mugabe isn’t it?

My relative is expecting trouble but hoping for the best. Things have been pretty grim lately.
