I believe it is not a million miles from the truth; certainly more real than Luther. One thing that is toned down considerably for TV is the violence. Some of the real life Narco stuff on You Tube is a million times worse than could ever be shown on TV. I met a Narco once, nice enough, gave me a beer. Killed some other people though. One of their techniques where I live is to stake the victim down on a beach, cover in gasoline, throw on a match, one by one in front of their family. Such is life in the tropics.TheJimi said:

The experts in the field (cartels) would still run the show, they are too well developed to overlook, yeah they wouldn't need to smuggle it but the transport would be similar, the sales outlet would also be similar in that a person would hand over/ship drugs to someone or an address.
The deaths and violence occur due to the people involved in the normal manufacture, shipment and sale of a product. Theft, espionage, power struggles ... If the cartels were asked to start manufacturing TV's they would still kill those who betrayed, stole or became competition.
Legalising coke or heroin wouldn't eliminate the violent nature of those in charge of drug organisations, as soon as someone steals, spies or wants power, people will die.
