Im with Bobby. Id be doing exactly the same as Blair in his position.

"Middle East Peace Envoy" ? Gimme a break, its a non-job, but a golden opportunity to make money. Id be taking "The Quartet", JP Morgan, Zurich Finance and the Kuwaitis for as much dosh as I could ferret from their pockets.
Indeed, although I do question our "Democratic" system when I read stuff such as this.
Deciding that it is not much diifferent from a past of Robber Barons.
Why would you think it was any different anyway? Because somebody told you it was?
Only an idiot would waste energy getting angry about Blair. No different to generations of Englishmen in the past who have raped the world for profit.

Yes, in my past, there where those who suggested otherwise.
Now perhaps it's time to educate current students as to the truth?
Oops, what might be the result?

Tony Benn? Would he count?

Never agreed with his politics but I have plenty of respect for the man.

Had a peerage and gave it up to enter The Commons IIRC.

Being wealthy doesn't mean you can't stand up for the masses in my book. Purely entering politics for personal gain and then treating everyone with contempt is a completely different ball game.

Publishing money from his grandfathers company, maybe.

I don't think he's been sniffing the capitalist trough like Blair, though. Much as I dislike his policies, I do admire his consistency.

Can you imagine Blair having a website like this?

Only because he didn't need to.

Tony's done a great job of disproving the old adage 'you can't fool all of 'the people' all of the time'.

And now his son's on the same old gravy train.......

Just before his agent died, his agent told me he had wasted his whole political life working for both Tony Benn and the Labour Party.

Agreed his son is an onanist of the first order. I don't see his dad making millions out of politics, I think he was one of the few politicians that had, and stuck to his principles, however misguided they were.

You don't need to make millions when you already have millions.

What I don't understand is why all these multinationals are giving him rest-cure directorships with fat salaries when he's obviously not very skilled at anything other than smarm and the ability to convince gullible people he's sincere, which isn't very marketable I'd have thought? What with multinational companies being run by the Masters of The Universe(TM), you'd think they would spend most of the time giggling up their sleeves at this simple charlatan.

Or have I got it wrong, and the kind of people on the boards of very large companies are uniformly unworldly and easily impressed by the grinning poltroon's oleaginous charms? Then there's the lecture tours or $1000 rubber chicken dinners; even when reading other people's scripts he never had anything interesting or relevant to say, it was always bland platitudes. Delivered well and with feeling, but bland platitudes nontheless.

I know, I have thought the same. It's a bit of a mystery.

I think the point here is TB will exploit whatever scenario he finds himself in. If it means men will die then so be it, only if their not related to him. His moral compass is missing and its not as if hes done a great job making up for the lies he made when in power.

If that were me I would be giving away internal organs to make myself feel better for all the suffering and cost of my actions. I'm a believer in karma and what goes around comes around. As far as im concerned, his turn cant come around soon enough, but it will on day.

Not really. The government officials who sanction massive tenders may or may not be impressed but they are probably casually reminded of Tony's help in getting rid of their real enemy, Saddam. Time to call in some favours.

The very large companies see him as a pre-sales resource and nothing more. An expensive resource but his fee is a mere drop in the ocean for what he is being used for. It is win win for both the very large companies and Fast Tony.

We will probably never know but it would be really interesting to know if it was Tony who approached JP Morgan first.

Great journalism though. Good to see there are still some good ones kicking about.
