2 bits of good news for me!

I won £2.70 on Euromillions last night.

Hopefully, next week, HR will confirm my package for transfering to our Latin American business unit, looking after customers through the Carribbean. If all goes to plan, I'll be moving out there by end November, with my family coming out in early January biggrin.

"Britain's economic growth will outpace that of any other major European country over the next couple of years, as parts of the Continent face "social breakdown", according to a think–tank. Predicting that recession would continue in the eurozone in 2013, with only marginal growth in 2014, the Centre for Economics and Business Research said Britain would grow by 0.8pc and 1.4pc respectively."

The local paper is making a big fuss about one relatively minor street fairly close to the town centre which now has all shops let and open for business, for the first time in three years. As national GDP will surge and the FTSE 100 will now clear 7000 on that basis alone, I thought others might like to know. They failed to mention the increased number of vacant shops along the main and more expensive shopping areas, but if you won't mention it to anyone then I won't.

Statistically it's good news for bankers and other finance sector workers earning a bonus.

"UK set to recover 5th place in global economic league "

not bad for a country with less than 1% of the worlds population.

But will we still be behind La France?

This weather should be good news...but this being England we'll have a hose pipe ban before the schools go back, and warnings over rampant melanoma/heat stroke/legionnaires disease etc etc etc

IMF predicts Britain's GDP growth rate will hit 3.2% this year.

http://www.theguardian.com/business/2014/jul/24/im...

"Last year the IMF said George Osborne's austerity policies were 'playing with fire' and could trigger a slump. Olivier Blanchard, its chief economist, said then that the risk for Britain of "having no growth, or very little growth, for a long time is very high" if the government maintained its austerity strategy."

Not quite...so nearer 4% maybe.

The Telegraph's take on the numbers: “British factories are booming,” said Chris Williamson, chief economist at Markit. “The official and survey data also help to dispel the notion that the recovery is based purely on consumer credit and the housing market, but is instead being fuelled to a large extent by booming factories and industry.”

Good news indeed.
