The one thing in all of this sorry affair that I cannot fathom is Esther Rantzen.
Apparently she now accepts that she turned a blind eye to it, and yet she set up Childline.
Something does not add up. At all.
Perhaps she didn't have the nerve to take him on, as after all he was a demi-god to many. Maybe she had legal advice that this could be more damaging to Childline (and therefore her cause) than it was worth.Apparently she now accepts that she turned a blind eye to it, and yet she set up Childline.

Sent straight to a landfill site by his family.
They don't mess around do they?
He was clearly a vile pervert, but the people who have real questions to answer are those who are still alive and who either joined in or covered it up, in my view.
Childline was set up to allow children to anonymously speak to someone about issues such as abuse.
It wasn't set up as an investigative body to raise allegations against adults who might be behaving in an inappropriate manner with children.
It was child driven - not adult driven.
Consequently, if no child contacted Childline about Savile, they would not have started any sort of investigation into his activities. And Childline came about in the mid to late 1980s - which seems to be post the era when Savile was at his most active - and the children he might have molested were already adults by then and not likely to phone a children's helpline.

The key thing with Ester is that all that matters is her, so any opportunity to further her career is grasped with both hands. Odious woman in the same way much like the ghastly Cherie.Apparently she now accepts that she turned a blind eye to it, and yet she set up Childline.

Is your opinion of her as an odious woman based on personal experience of her?
Has she done your personal harm?
Have worked with her and Jimmy a few times, she is much like Anne Robinson I.e. a very arrogant and pushy person, unpleasant to junior staff particularly women. There are some not very pleasant stories about Ester in the That's Life days and before regarding young producers and researchers. One thing about the Jimmy Savile rumours at the time, as I recall them was that they did not suggest a liking for under age girls more just the Radio 1 fans. My recollection of him was as a strange and weird bloke who was not all that friendly with the staff. Of course I was not a girl or under age.Has she done your personal harm?

Thanks for the clarification.I remember her in her very early days as a co-presenter on Bernard Braden's show. "That's Life" came along with the demise of that original show.

Unpleasant people (and clearly I use the term very loosely here) can do very good things. Driven people get things done but can often be unbearable as people. This is part of the problem with the whole story - the nonsense concept of "good" and "evil" is so ingrained in people's mind that they can't deal with the fact that JS did an awful lot of good for charity and (allegedly) these crimes.V8mate said:
On the Today Programme this morning: "Police believe Savile had as many as 30 victims".
Yeah right
Did the miss out the 'per year'?
I could be wrong but it strikes me that one of the reasons there is so much here say and conjecture about JS is that he wasn't nearly as prolific as some people are making out. Obviously this does not lessen the impact on those he may have abused.Yeah right

Is that really sensible? Suggesting names here is a bad idea imo. I do hope XXXX XXXXXXX ends up eating porridge though. I've never liked XXXX XXXXXXX.
NXXX XXXXXXX.Wouldn't confirm if it was 4 letters followed by 7 though, drat.
