Firstly I don't want this post to come over as homophobic. I'm not homophobic in the least, what consenting adults do in their private life has no bearing on anything I think or do. However this post may seem a little homophobic, I can assure you that it isn't.
The beeb, ok, well first let's consider that at one time homosexuality was illegal. It was decriminalised in 1967. Whatever we feel about this being morally wrong the fact of the matter is that it was illegal, and at the time was covered under the 'Sexual offenses' act. Therefore a homosexual was considered at the time a sex offender.
The beeb was a haven for homosexuals (actually for that matter so was the political realm). You had people like Kenneth Williams flaunting their camp personas openly for everyone to see, there were many others (Larry Grayson, Frankie Howerd, Charles Hawtry) but I'm just using Williams as an example as I'm a fan, most were famous for their regular visits to Tangiers where accounts of them using young rent-boys were commonplace.
So the beeb was a place where people who were considered sexual deviants and sex offenders were welcomed, as were many areas of the entertainment industry generally.
In the political field you had the openly homosexual Jeremy Thorpe MP famous for the Norman Scott story, where he was bumming his personal secretary and then treated him badly and it made the press, there are many others. It was/is an accepted thing within the establishment so the fact that Savile (notice the lack of the second L, which would be usual, making the word 'vile' (David Icke mode ) and many others were allowed to openly carry out their fantasies is hardly surprising to me given the general atmosphere.
The same can be said for parliament and a whole long list of parliamentary figures and their antics too.
I must stress again that this view of homosexuals isn't my view, but was the legal viewpoint at the time. I'm just making an observation about the BBC.

Point of order here (sorry for the crop but in context)In the political field you had the openly homosexual Jeremy Thorpe MP famous for the Norman Scott story, where he was bumming his personal secretary and then treated him badly and it made the press, there are many others. Kenneth Williams - notorious bender - not noted for a predeliction for rent boys.
Charles Hawtrey - ditto as above.
Larry Grayson - ditto as above.
Frankie Howerd - an interesting case, a notorious predatory bummer who would accost and proposition backstage (!) hands at the beeb and elsewhere, well known for his enormous sex drive.
Jeremy Thorpe - well documented and had quite particular tastes for the more submissive of males.
Other politicos - well, what can one say? More exposures will be forthcoming in the near future.
I am thinking particularly of one former cabinet minister whose name has been in the news recently, plus a few others, no doubt...
One waits with baited breath.
Or perhaps not.

Neither funny nor appropriate. I mean a well liked elderly man has died, a man who devoted loads of time to doing charity work he didn't have to do and some of you lots comments are disgusting. Grow up, RIP Sir Jimmy.audi321 said:

Seems Merseyside police have to look into Surrey Police as a 2012 report didn't state that they'd been contacted about Savile in 2003 in relation to the Arundel inquiry.

Jimmy Saville did more in his life than some detractors on here will ever do. I recall my first memory of him on Top of the Pops in 1964 - he has also been a semi-pro cycle racer, and professional wrestler.
His charity work is beyond question. Just 'cos he never acted or looked the norm didn't mean he wasn't a perfect human being. He was nearer to it than many!
A tireless champion of good deeds and needs.
In the 80s this fabulous Ginetta G12 was well-known with driver Richard Dodkins supporting the Stoke Mandeville Hospital Appeal Fund - it had Saville's famed signature on the rear (Saville's smiley - before emoticons had even been heard of - inside his 'J', and Saville's 'S' turned into a $ sign and an 'l' into a £ sign. He was absolutely genuine.
He was a bloody legend and the assholes on here deriding him on are beyond contempt. Have some respect!

That photo caption, 'Harding, an expert on music boxes and clocks, was filmed in 1980 repairing a young girl's music box'
Just makes me think of BBC3's Monkey Dust Paedofinder General.
'Do you deny being seen on national TV with your fingers inside a young girl's musical 'box'?
I saw that news piece earlier and only just noticed that there's a girl between Harding and the Christmas tree.
Is Savile shaking the hand of Harding while eyeing up the young girl?

Bill Cosby in hot water it seems. Wonder how the Americans will deal with this.

It happens a lot - abused people feel utterly ashamed and then somehow link to the abuser and it then becomes normal. Of course there are some who lie but 30 years later I don't think so that poor lady's life has been ruined by that rape.
