Would you prefer it all to be swept under the carpet? If so could you explain why?
Please pay attention - it's BEEN under the carpet for decades. The real question is, why do YOU want it swept OUT from under the carpet after all these years, whatever "it" may be?

Eric keeps banging on about the "victims". Where are they? The women who've come forward don't look like gibbering wrecks to me. What do you want - an apology from a dead man? Money from the taxpayer?

It can't be undone. He can't be punished. Get over it. It's too late.

Deal with TODAY.

I'm beginning to wonder if the whole of the St Winnifreds School Choir weren't buggered in the green room before they went on the show.

Interesting point. The manipulation of public perception by the powers that be..

yes
How many shows did you attend?

Did you attend for the entire run of the series which was from 1964 to 2006?

Over the life of the show they had different policies and ideas about how the show was run. In the early 1980s they had a deliberate policy of mixing their dancers with the audience - instead of them performing set staged routines to a particular song.

As well as reading about the history of the show, there have been various documentaries on the BBC about TOTP over the years where the different formats have been discussed.

As an aside, my best mate's dad shagged one of Pan's People.

Nothing remotely to do with this thread as she was in her twenties at the time but thought I would mention.

He did good, won't mention the name but it was the proper fitty biggrin

This is gonna mess up BBC4s 70s TOTPs nights.

My auntie was on TOTPs in the late 60s, we have video of her with a massive beehive dancing away, she was 15 and hasn't mentioned being molested.

My brother was on Jim'll fix it too in the early 80s, no one touched him up either...

I reckon in about 25 years paedophile will be where gay is now. Just another facet of normality which only a prejudiced bigot would condemn. After all, if someone as philanthropic and honour worthy as Uncle Jim the Kiddies Friend and Saint of Stoke Mandeville is a paedophile, what really can the harm be?
You seriously think paedophilia will be acceptable as a life choice in society ?
If we're talking about sex with little kiddies or babies (like the nutters do in Africa because they think it'll cure AIDS) then probably not. But if we're talking about people who have developed or even are developing secondary sexual characteristics regardless of their age then I don't think it's impossible. It's a feature of decadence and it's nothing new.

There are also very promiscuous and streetwise young kids. Some of them have sex amongst themselves and you can be certain that some of them have sex with older people too. Don't the posher post pubescent girls who indulge in adult activities like drinking and drugtaking (and sex too, you can be sure) get called (and get feted as) 'Wild Child'?? It's a kind of celebrity status isn't it? Bill Wyman had one. And Bob Geldof's daughter(s) was one too wasn't she? Amanda de Cadenet? Long list of THEM.

There's even some kind of strange culture of sexualised modelling/beauty contesting for little girls isn't there? And it's very much approved of and promoted by their parents, isn't it? And aren't there major clothing manufacturers who pander to the appeal and market for sexualised children?

At least 50% of the PH massif (and the wider world too) don't see anything to fuss about re. the maths teacher and his underage lover. And it's probably well on the cards to stop defining inappropriate sex strictly by an age measure.

So yeah. It's the last taboo. And all of the above things and plenty more too are eroding it.

Do I think it's good and desirable that the world's gradually coming to some tolerance or acceptance of paedophilia? Well, according to one poster I need castrated and euthanised because I even mention the matter which, in itself, apparently makes me tantamount to actually BEING a kiddie fiddler.

TBH I'm probably more of a paedoPHOBE. Don't really like kids, especially on planes, and in hotels and restaurants. I prefer adult company and live a wholly adult-oriented life and lifestyle. Can't see how anyone can find the child body sexually attractive. It isn't. It ain't got the right bits! And having hugely enjoyed a middle aged 'crisis' some 20 odd years ago I have to say the lack of sexual experience of most young women definitely doesn't add anything to the event, apart from which their lack of experience of life renders them pretty dull as company. I'll stick with the old bag thanks. After a million shags she knows what floats the groak, the cooking's world class, and she knows her Monets from her Manets, ferraris from fioruccis, and where the best seats are found at Nou Camp and San Siro, as well as who plays there. That'll do THIS dirty old man!

Jimmy Savile was a sad old bd who shoved his grubby wizened paws up wee girls skirts and had pump squirt 10 second sex with scared bewildered juveniles. He wouldn't know what to do with or say to a real woman and most certainly never knew what love is. Nice, eh? Bet you wish you were HIM. cry

Well there we go. Should everyone's formative experiences be tarnished by what we know now? It seems a trait of this country that everyone should rip up the fabric of their childhood memories, 'all for the abused' in a never ending quest to set the record straight, and more importantly I feel, sell papers. Now that is not to detract from their painful experiences in any way. But it's the media feeding frenzy I run a mile from.
I have good memories my childhood from that era as do many of my age. I liked Jim'll fix it and Gary Glitter, solely from my perspective, ie, watchin TOTP's etc, on the TV.
I really am apalled by the subsequent revelations of these people's behaviour, but I'm fooked if I'm going to be made to feel depressed or abused by proxy. Hope that kinda makes sense, home from the pub, had a few sherberts. smile

There is something rather unsavoury about old men abusing their position of 'celebrity' to manipulate young folk who, although sexually mature, are not in possession of fully adult decision-making processes into providing them sexual gratification. There is no justifying it.

Wow that's a dumb post. Even for PH.

The bloke who murdered Milly Dowler was alive to answer the charge. That's the difference.

So, death grants people reputational immunity?

Mo wonder so many Nazis committed suicide.
