Wow that's a dumb post. Even for PH.

The bloke who murdered Milly Dowler was alive to answer the charge. That's the difference.
So, death grants people reputational immunity?

Mo wonder so many Nazis committed suicide.
I won't hear a word against Stalin. He was never convicted of anything when he was alive.

If we're talking about sex with little kiddies or babies (like the nutters do in Africa because they think it'll cure AIDS) then probably not. But if we're talking about people who have developed or even are developing secondary sexual characteristics regardless of their age then I don't think it's impossible. It's a feature of decadence and it's nothing new.

There are also very promiscuous and streetwise young kids. Some of them have sex amongst themselves and you can be certain that some of them have sex with older people too. Don't the posher post pubescent girls who indulge in adult activities like drinking and drugtaking (and sex too, you can be sure) get called (and get feted as) 'Wild Child'?? It's a kind of celebrity status isn't it? Bill Wyman had one. And Bob Geldof's daughter(s) was one too wasn't she? Amanda de Cadenet? Long list of THEM.

There's even some kind of strange culture of sexualised modelling/beauty contesting for little girls isn't there? And it's very much approved of and promoted by their parents, isn't it? And aren't there major clothing manufacturers who pander to the appeal and market for sexualised children?

At least 50% of the PH massif (and the wider world too) don't see anything to fuss about re. the maths teacher and his underage lover. And it's probably well on the cards to stop defining inappropriate sex strictly by an age measure.

So yeah. It's the last taboo. And all of the above things and plenty more too are eroding it.

Do I think it's good and desirable that the world's gradually coming to some tolerance or acceptance of paedophilia? Well, according to one poster I need castrated and euthanised because I even mention the matter which, in itself, apparently makes me tantamount to actually BEING a kiddie fiddler.

TBH I'm probably more of a paedoPHOBE. Don't really like kids, especially on planes, and in hotels and restaurants. I prefer adult company and live a wholly adult-oriented life and lifestyle. Can't see how anyone can find the child body sexually attractive. It isn't. It ain't got the right bits! And having hugely enjoyed a middle aged 'crisis' some 20 odd years ago I have to say the lack of sexual experience of most young women definitely doesn't add anything to the event, apart from which their lack of experience of life renders them pretty dull as company. I'll stick with the old bag thanks. After a million shags she knows what floats the groak, the cooking's world class, and she knows her Monets from her Manets, ferraris from fioruccis, and where the best seats are found at Nou Camp and San Siro, as well as who plays there. That'll do THIS dirty old man!

Jimmy Savile was a sad old bd who shoved his grubby wizened paws up wee girls skirts and had pump squirt 10 second sex with scared bewildered juveniles. He wouldn't know what to do with or say to a real woman and most certainly never knew what love is. Nice, eh? Bet you wish you were HIM. cry
Sexual interest in post-pubescent youngsters isn't technically paedophillia so I'm not sure your general point stands. There certainly have been different attitudes to post-pubescent but underage girls in the past and maybe in the future. I doubt the law will change much though.

Sexual assault remains a crime, as does statutory rape. Whether the suspect is dead or alive there is a potential crime that needs to be investigated.

How many shows did you attend?

Did you attend for the entire run of the series which was from 1964 to 2006?

........... In the early 1980s they had a deliberate policy of mixing their dancers with the audience .
As I said yesterday in a post responding to one of yours - "I'm talking about 1970 - 1979 and I'm only talking about TOTP." . So I've no direct experience of "the early 1980s".

During my 9 years at the BBC I've no idea of how many TOTP I worked on, but it was on a fairly regular basis.
If in 40 years time it came out that a well loved former celebrity had abused
the tax rules regarding Partnerships, you would probably be able to speak from direct experience on
'Arctic Systems' but would you be able to recall how many clients of yours it was relevant to? biggrin

Lots of heinous characters have gone to their grave never having to answer for their sins. That doesn't and shouldn't mean that they should be absolved of those sins.

Well, I presume then that those BBC retrospective documentaries I've seen about TOTP must have been telling lies I suppose.

And all those historians who study and write about events that happened before they are born are writing rubbish.

Is direct experience the only criteria for knowledge of a subject? Indeed, I wasn't actually in court for the various Arctic Systems hearings and am only aware of it from reading the reports and attending lectures - so any knowledge I have of that must be totally untrustworthy - according to your reasoning.

You can take your "direct experience" analogy to ridiculous levels if you want to.

Or that absolution is anything other than religious clap-trap.

"The chairman of the BBC Trust has ruled out an independent investigation into alleged abuses by Jimmy Savile."

"The director-general has asked the BBC Investigations Unit to make contact with all the police forces in receipt of allegations and provide full support to any lines of inquiry. The Trust is satisfied this is the most appropriate action to take, particularly given that the allegations involve criminal activity."

Good. A bit of common sense.

After watching some BBC retrospective documentaries; myself, my wife (who worked there longer than I)
and current ex-BBC friends, all agreed in discussion that aspects of the programmes were 'not as we recalled'.
I'm sure I've read posts by you here on PH, criticisng the accuracy of several documentary programmes (not BBC content related, probably aircraft or motor sport related???? ).

And history is sometimes re-written and long held beliefs are overturned (for better or for worse).
Going further OT - I worked with a historian who told me that he had inserted snippets of pure fiction into his writing in order to trap subsequent writers who might plagiarise his work.

And I note that it only took you about 13 hours to forget or maybe misinterpret my post, in which I stated the very clear 1970 - 1979 TOTP dates, and subsequently ask me about my 'attendance' from 1964 to 2006 rolleyes.

Well there we go. Should everyone's formative experiences be tarnished by what we know now? It seems a trait of this country that everyone should rip up the fabric of their childhood memories, 'all for the abused' in a never ending quest to set the record straight, and more importantly I feel, sell papers. Now that is not to detract from their painful experiences in any way. But it's the media feeding frenzy I run a mile from.
I have good memories my childhood from that era as do many of my age. I liked Jim'll fix it and Gary Glitter, solely from my perspective, ie, watchin TOTP's etc, on the TV.
I really am apalled by the subsequent revelations of these people's behaviour, but I'm fooked if I'm going to be made to feel depressed or abused by proxy. Hope that kinda makes sense, home from the pub, had a few sherberts. smile

Nobody said anything about absolving anybody of anything. I'm saying accusing somebody of such crimes when he's no longer alive to defend himself doesn't sit well with me. The candidness of the press in circulating the rumours and hearsay as fact - not to mention Janet Street Porters appearence on Question Time - makes me believe they'd be far more careful about what they say if he were still alive.

We're not talking about Hitlers henchmen whose sins are well documented with undeniable evidence. If someone has solid evidence then fine, but I'm not entirely sure what people want from this. He is dead. There will be no trial. There will be no criminal prosecutions and there will be no prison sentences for anybody.

So what is the general thought about this?

http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/jimmy-savile-...

It's kind of wrong, but also kind of not that bad. He didn't seem to be actively grooming her or seeking her out. She sent and letter and tracked him down at a disco.

Todays Sunday Times quotes a witness as describing 3 celebrities described as JS, G and F molesting young girls.

They've since confirmed JS was Saville and G was Glitter, but apparently F can't be named for legal reasons.

So who is it?

An over used saying, but I blame the parents on that one. Silly thick fks letting their daughter knock round with an old fella, guiding his roller onto the drive. I am sorry, but for God's sake. I am not saying JS was right here, but FFS, she had a relastionship with him and the parents approved.

If the evidence is so solid, she should have gone to the police. 5, 10 15 20 25 30 years ago.
