The point is why would a lawyer advise the police officer to leave such a crucial piece of information out of his initial statement?

Verdict delivered.

Lawfully killed.

There'll be plenty on the bone to chew on with the jury's conclusion. The headline, however, must be that he was lawfully killed.

A developing story so the link might be succeeded by another page shortly.

Yes, tragically, I see this being of little interest to those 'supporting the family'.

As if the riots had everything to do with injustice and not opportunist grabbing .. on the upside they can just re-arrest the same people!

I don't think we should be too glib. Like many on here I'm not particularly sympathetic to Mark Duggan's lifestyle choices and ultimate demise but it would be foolish to underestimate the genuine ill feeling surrounding his death in some quarters. It was reported "over a hundred" of his (presumably closest) family attended Court to hear the conclusions. That in itself is going to be quite a headache for on-site security. I'd imagine some less informed members of the North London community will also be less than pleased with some of the headline conclusions.

Good day to bury that sort of 'bad news' isn't it?

Good job the verdict wasn't delivered the week before Christmas.

Scenes at court
1622: John Simpson, The Times reporter, tweets: Ok it's calmed down inside the Royal Courts of Justice. I have never seen a jury chased out of a court.

Morons outside the court appear to be chanting 'fk the police' and something else unintelligible.

I don't want to derail the thread but are any of the resident legal bods able to advise where I can find out more about this inquiry please? Ideally by PM.

Laughable, and shows the general mentality of them. He could have had the gun still in his hand as he was buried and they'd still blame the police. They never bother to look at the family, community, his (polite, eloquent, well mannered friends) as to who is to blame!?

One less thug in the country, it's a good start.

His aunt said on the court steps, "No justice, no peace". I don't think I'll be popping down to Tottenham High street or Edmonton Green any time soon. frown

So the police shot dead a man that wasn't armed. I still think the gun was planted.

Why does everyone think the gun is dodgy, purely because it was used in a crime not attributed to Duggan previously?

I thought it was widely known that many of these weapons are rented
