The BBC's head honcho Lord Hall has appointed an ex-Labour minister and culture luvvie as the broadcaster's new radio and education chief - without advertising the position - ~£300k of pure lefty cronyism.

Whereas a right wing boss would have said 'hold on mate, must have a fair and open recruitment process , open to all regardless of suitabillty '? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/09/29/bbc-to-...

Just in case there's anyone who still doesn't know the score, the primary source here is the comedian.
Radio 4 comic says he was told he had to go because the BBC wanted more women and minorities.
That is absolutely, bloody, fantastic.Radio 4 comic says he was told he had to go because the BBC wanted more women and minorities.
Holmes was an insufferable, politically correct, right-on, lefty.
I'm sure that he will be very pleased to have been sacked to promote "diversity".
After all, he has been promoting diversity for years. Losing his job is a small price to pay for the greater good.

(Not sure what your point about "regardless of suitability" is, unless you're implying that Purnell was the ONLY man in the country suitable for the job and as such any open process would have been a waste of time and money?)

The bias is the problem not its direction.

The BBC has been accused of inflaming racial tension after trying to recruit supporters of the EDL to appear in the audience on Question Time.

That's just a further proof how lefty BBC actually is. They either knew that EDL supporters wouldn't come, or they wanted to paint the right wing in a bad light, or it's a sneaky ploy to try to cover how lefty they actually are. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/10/02/bbc-acc...
Or strawman, appeal to authority, secondary sources, public sector.

If the above irony-flavoured tripe is the best that beeb apologists can muster in the face of self-evident and self-confessed BBC left-wing bias, there's no effective defence available - otherwise it would surely have been put to use.
Trying to recruit EDL members to a QT audience is hardly the common sense way to move towards a less lefty-biased and more politically neutral audience. There are less inflammatory means available.

Guess the headline and the first sentence on the IMF update news anyone?
http://www.bbc.com/news/business-37552076
I think the second sentence in the article is my favourite..."Although the IMF raised its prediction for UK GDP growth this year to 1.8%, the figure for 2017 was cut to 1.1%."

Back in April, the BBC reported that "The Fund said a Brexit vote would result in a "protracted period of heightened uncertainty" and could result in a sharp rise in interest rates, cause volatility on financial markets and damage London's status as a global financial centre."
Wh have had a cut in interest rates.

How in God's name do you manage to put a negative spin on a strong stoock market.
The FTSE250 closed at an all time high. That isn't impartial. It is a typical lefty trying to talk his country down.

Aren't the stock market gains down to the pound plunging against the dollar so companies with earnings in dollars gain more when they exchange to pounds? How in God's name do you manage to put a negative spin on a strong stoock market.

Exporters are having a great time at the moment, but the FTSE250 companies are not reliant on exports. They sell to the UK.
Two things are happening. Interest rates are very low(0.5 - 1.5)on both savings accounts and bonds. You can easily get 4% on fairly safe shares, and the shares might also increase in value. So why would you keep savings in a bank. Pension funds are also under pressure to move from bonds to shares.
The other thing is that, despite Project Fear, consumer confidence and spending are actually quite high. So the outlook is very positive.
