Nick Robinson on R4 earlier discussing Trump's lagging in the polls with that other "impartial" BBC "journalist" McNaughtie

"...........it's simply not enough to attract maybe the sort of people who came out to vote to leave the EU"

Nick mate, why don't you just tell us what you really think?

I am rarely angered by radio/TV but this one did make me bloody cross. It is outrageous that Robinson should equate 'Leave' voters with the type of people who would not only vote for Trump, but are to be even more attracted after his behaviour with women was revealed and after the Clinton/Trump debate. Robinson should be sacked for this alone.

The so-called BBC are still very bitter about failing to convince the nation to stay in the EU aren't they? hehe

Sooo, wrong context. It was a comment about those who don't normally vote as oppose to those who support Trump. Given the full transcript, I believe him.

As you were.

Guess the headline and the first sentence on the IMF update news anyone?

http://www.bbc.com/news/business-37552076

I think the second sentence in the article is my favourite..."Although the IMF raised its prediction for UK GDP growth this year to 1.8%, the figure for 2017 was cut to 1.1%."

hehe
To be fair, the latest prediction for growth in 2017 is 50% lower than earlier this year - April prediction was 2.2% now 1.1%.

Whereas 2016 prediction was 1.9% then 1.7% now 1.8% so not really a story.

I don't know whether you heard the piece - I did - but with respect I disagree. It was clearly equating Trump voters with leave voters not merely referendum participants. Even if he didn't mean that, the innate bias made the slant unmistakable.

I heard it and even as a dyed-in-the-wool Leaver and someone who does think the BBC leans slightly to the left I took it to mean that Trump needs to do more than attract voters who perhaps wouldn't have voted in previous US elections, much like the Leave campaign brought out people who perhaps wouldn't normally vote in general elections in the UK but felt it was important their voice was heard.

Put the pitchforks down people.

Why mention either stripe specifically? 'The referendum' would have made the point that you think her was making without risk of ambiguity.

I just took it that the Leave campaign mobilised more voters to come out who wouldn't have done so for a GE than the Remain campaign (high %age of moany Reamainer young people didn't actually bother).

Maybe I'm wrong, as I say I think the BBCs (and especially Radio 4s) output is left-liberal biased to an extent, so perhaps it could have been phrased better but if you look for bias either way in everything people say you'll surely find it, even if it's not necessarily there.

My nostrils aren't usually flared so it must have been fairly easy to get it wrong; if indeed it was wrong. It's a matter of personal resonance I suppose.

"Hear hear! Now let’s see the Labour Party grow some proper balls and unite in the lobbies to vote out every cynical, vicious, racist and xenophobic piece of legislation these new Nazis propose and let’s start by demanding a commons debate on Brexit and voting out this utterly undemocratic and non-legally binding referendum result which was achieved by a combination of dishonest fearmongering and lies about the economy”

That is an awesome display of BBC impartiality.
