"Political bias at BBC - something has to be done surely"

Get rid of your TV set and don't use itunes. That is doing something "surely".

Bet you haven't done it? And has anyone else on here done it? No, all wind no actual action. Pathetic. Rather would just watch it and then complain.

As Trump would say

SAD!!!!

Dear Barry Took,

You are no longer here so I spout off on a Pistonheads thread with like minded right wing leaning other posters to make this 3400 pages long and having no actual real benefit at all in the greater scheme of things.

Cheers

wink

TBH, seems a not unreasonably complaint. I certainly did not know and six seats is a big deal for a small party.
The Greens get a ridiculously easy ride from the media. I'd love someone to pull them up on their batst policies like a zero growth economy, closing prisons and turning military bases into nature reserves
An irony whch no doubt escapes the greens is that most bases in the UK effectively are nature reserves because of the relative lack of development, intensive farming or other human activity.

The BBC's slant to the Left can be seen from space.

It's stellar.

A minor observation - having sampled ITN for a few nights alongside the BBC News, the commercial crowd seem far less struck with hyperbole, almost opposite what I would have expected (thinking back to some of the hysterical reporting on Capital Radio in the 1970's).

Most recently the chap in the US (John Sopel?) describing the Trump admin as 'House of Cards on steroids' etc. Weird.

At least they kept a straight face announcing the launch of the Plaid Cymru 'manifesto', which must be difficult.

One day someone will perfect a r/c that can allow the viewer to dial up or down the bias to suit. They'll make millions - just before war breaks out.

yes I find ITV news far more watchable these days, even with our man Robert Peston.....
The weather forecasters are much easier on the eye also, particularly Lucy getmecoat

But if you want to watch broadcast tv you have to pay irrespective of whether you watch BBC or not.
Have to pay for it even if you don't want it.
Yes you have to pay even if you don't want it.

Do you get why this might be a bit of an issue for some? I have no problem with the bias in the Guardian (even though the biggest subscribers are the BBC - hence using my license fee to prop up the paper) and no problem with the bias in the Daily Star. I don't have to pay for them so they can sprout whatever nonsense they want to appeal to both their readers.

As does almost everyone in almost every country in the developed world.

If the BBC was shut down/went private tomorrow, do you think the government would drop the 'tax' on watching live TV?

I have to say this thread always gives me a good laugh.

So many furious right wingers who consider even a mention of the Labour Party to be evidence of 'bias'. Are people only allowed to be exposed to right wing views these days then?

No but it would be more honest.

Two wrongs do not make a right. Just because others may do it, is not a good reason to do the same. The BBC was the first kid on the block, others followed its model. Its as simple as that.

I let my BBC license lapse last year, because, basically, I did not watch it, so decided not to bother at all. I do find it absurd though, that if I did watch a live TV broadcast from another company , I can be hauled into court for doing so. Truly bizarre and beyond parody.

So you'd be happier to pay the fee and get nothing in return? You've never enjoyed a BBC drama? You've never watched any sport on the BBC? Never seen a nature doc they've made?

I get very little from the BBC now - nothing wrong with the subscription model as I already pay extra for my virgin package.

That's not really an answer to my question is it? If you watch and enjoy any BBC output then for the very small outlay the licence fee represents (especially as it would be in place with or without the BBC) it's good value for money.

BBC drama? Not really my thing
Sport on BBC? Like what? Ladies football? Athletics? No thanks
Nature documentary? Now that Attenbourough is in the twilight of his career, we get endless stuff with annoying Scottish, Mexican, or other assorted 'diverse' accents.
Whatever, it just doesn't seem to be very good value any more, the bias IMO makes the news not worth watching, & its ridiculous that not having a license is a criminal offence.

It may be, but it IS bound by charter not to be a political spokesperson for the personal views of its staff. It is failing its charter.
