Christina could garner some useful political capital out of this. The holding of their ship will be hurting the argies national pride deeply. She would become a heroine if she authorised an operation to get it back. I would not be surprised if they were plannning to send a small party of sf to cut her mooring lines and sail her out. They have already asked for her to be refueled. It would be a great national pride boost and they wont be bothered about pissing off Ghana. I hope they go for it!
Yep would be a good publicity stunt with little downside other than upsetting the Ghanans, that said they could quite easily hunt her down and recapture her, Ghana's Navy has a few well armed fast patrol boats.
And then there is always a RN vessel between Ghana and Argentina.....RN taking on some "rogues" in a tall ship? hehe

If she gets underway I can't see anyone seriously trying to stop her.

I'll have a tall ship in the Cape Verdes in mid November, I could make a detour and claim it as war prize for the Falklanders evil

That'll make your stop in Argie later on a bit socially awkward...

It's virtually impossible as it is, as I plan on visiting Stanley just before Argentina, but I do like a challenge...

When you going to Argentina? Where is the next stop from there? I hear Panama and the Galapagos is nice that time of year.... smile

(a leg on a tall ship is on my list!)

Next stop after Argentina is Recife, Brazil via Trisan Da Cuhna, St. Helena & Ascension (commonly known as the 3 British lumps of rock in the middle of knowhere!).

Get to Ushuaia in mid-Feb 2014 after a 60 voyage from Auckland. Then 25 days around Antarctica, then a rather more sedate 25 day trip from Ushuaia to Buenas Aires bouncing in to various Argie stop overs for a cerveza or three, plus a call into the Falklands. Sounds impossible with the current politics, but I'm working on getting a 'broken' Brit & Argie ex-serviceman from the Falklands conflict having a beer together in the boozer in Stanley! As I said earlier, I do like a challenge.

I'm half way there with as we'll have a British injured serviceman/woman on all of the 10 major passages, all via Help For Heroes, so just need to track down the Argie side of things. A bit OT, but if I'm allowed a short youtube clip without getting in trouble from PH Towers, I'll just drop this here (filmed onboard TENACIOUS, that some will remember from the Tall Ship Sunday Service in Aug 2011) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B2RB1jQnmKE

Next stop after Argentina is Recife, Brazil via Trisan Da Cuhna, St. Helena & Ascension (commonly known as the 3 British lumps of rock in the middle of nowhere!).

With what we do, we may not be the 'balls out' type tall ship sailing full of a young fit folk needing their characters built you are looking for, but happy to PM some more info if you like.

Looks like the ARA Libertad may be available at auction soon, unless they have Perry Mason on the case.

I think this should lay to rest any residual belief that the Argentine forces are anything other than a bankrupt, busted flush. They can't even pay their parts bill on time, and Herman wants cash in hand before lifting a spanner. hehe

Fascinating insight into the political wranglings of the day. We certainly stuck it to the yanks.

This is brilliant;

"I never, never expected the Argentines to invade the Falklands head-on. It was such a stupid thing to do, as events happened, such a stupid thing even to contemplate doing", Mrs Thatcher told the Franks Committee."
