You really are blinkered aren't you? If the Commanders who fought the battle didn't think it was a foregone conclusion (and are on record as such) why do you? Indeed, Admiral Woodward himself used the Iron Duke's quote: 'A close run thing'.
GAAAH! Wellesley said "It has been a damned nice thing — the nearest run thing you ever saw in your life", never 'A close run thing'.Also the phrase 'Iron Duke' is not meant to flatter - it was given to him in recognition of his putting iron blinds over his windows to stop bricks coming through during riots he cause years later when in politics. It is not a nom de guerre.
Tut.
Hey Ginetta, what role does a C130 carry out in the Falklands? Apart from sneaky beaky stuff over to the mainland, and transporting / resupplying troops from one side of the islands to the other there doesn't seem to be much call for them?

Of course it was a foregone conclusion - otherwise it would never have been fought.
Of course the military chiefs are bound to say, "Ooh, that was really difficult and we are very clever and courageous". Blowing their own trumpets.
Of course you are welcome to go and fight to keep far off islands with nobody on them if you want to. I'm not going and I wouldn't send anyone else.
Of course the total death toll of the incident was utterly and completely unacceptable,
Of course UK wouldn't have raised a finger if the "other side" had been Russia or China.
Of course it was a foregone conclusion.....

Of course the total death toll of the incident was utterly and completely unacceptable,
- 900 people killed
- 2,500 people wounded
- Population of the Falklands in 1982 - just 1,800 people
- An overall death ratio of 50% and more people wounded than actually lived there!
Of course UK wouldn't have raised a finger if the "other side" had been Russia or China.
Of course it was a foregone conclusion.....
Troops on the ground in Iraq who took part in fire fights with Sadam loyalists will regale you with tales of how tough it was but is anybody seriously questioning what the eventual outcome of that 'war' was going to be once it got going?
Jeez.

During my time on 1312 Flt we did MRR (Maritime Radar Reconnaissance) patrolling the area around the islands, as well as out to South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands (including airdrop re-supplies to South Georgia). Our primary role, however, was acting as the air-to-air refueller for the fighters (as well as doing DACT - dissimilar air combat). These days there is still a flat-floor Albert at MPA (Mount Pleasant Airport) for the airdrop and MRR roles.

Wait, are you saying that was a victory now? Because remember earlier when you were asking about 'British victories' and all that st and suggesting Iraq wasn't? He is saying tales, as in, at best, boring stories or at worst made up lies.

Indeed. What staggered me was hearing last week that 60% of the population of Afghanistan is under the age of 25. So essentially their entire teen/adult lives have seen their own country occupied by "foreign powers".I bet they'll be rejecting the Taliban and begging for McDonalds and Starbucks all right.

And i disagree with war mongering females.
I negate your (quite frankly pathetic, and fictional) arguments with facts, and you resort to insults. A fairly common tactic from those who have no way to back up their assertions. Please tell me where I was war mongering?
Oh that's right you can't!
I talked about the defence of people - hardly war mongering is it? (hint: go and look the term up)
People like you are pathetic, you stand upon your, so called, 'principles' yet are the first to bleat when things don't go your way.
I pray you never need protection from bad people. If you do, don't come crying to me.
People like you disgust me with your cowardice and your desire to throw other people's freedoms away just because you are 'all right jack'.

Yeah, of course your referencing "cowards" FIRST wasn't aimed at me. Ginetta G15 Girl said:

But again with the 'coward' eh? tsk tsk
And exactly why the hell would I come crying to you??? You give yourself waaaaaay too much importance love.
But don't worry, the day I need protecting by an angry testosterone-soaked ex-military female I'll be sure not to call on you Ok.
Oh go on, keep up with the insults!
'Testosterone soaked' Do you really have nothing better?
'Angry'? You do me way too much assumption wee lad.
Keep on with the insults, it shows how badly how you lost your argument.
Did you not say: "Anyway, I'm out now as I can't argue with people who are going to keep on mentioning how members of their family died in the conflict as that will just turn the mood nasty and I'm in a good mood."
So you are a hypocrite as well as being someone who throws insults around because they have failed to win their argument.
You really are doubly pathetic.
