Lolz. South American dictatorships make Gordon Brown look like Martin Lewis. I'm pretty neutral on this matter, but I would like to see the plastic-faced woman or her successor get their asses whooped again.
We couldn't assemble that task force these days. The Argentines probably know that.

We don't need to- we have sufficient forces in place & ability to reinforce quickly. The Argentines probably know that.

We won't need to, the Argentinians have nothing worth bothering about that a single type 45 destroyer and an Astute class sub couldn't deal with on their own.

All that matters is the Argies would get their arses kickedand they know that but you seem stuck with antiquated terms like "task force".

HMS Ocean with a few Apaches and company of marines, a type 45 and a hunter killer sub is all that is needed. Plus an auxiliary to carry the beer.

The Argie's couldn't assemble an invasion fleet these days. The Argentines definitely know that.

The sub, some SAMs, a few typhoons. The pub is already established nearby.

Plan for all eventualities, add a RFA in case the pub gets taken out.

An american general once said "If the 3rd world war started, all you would have to do is put the worlds supply of beer in red square, and the British army would be there in two weeks"

I know a few army officers- they'll have a backup pub already established. Besides which, would you REALLY upset a bunch of squaddies by trashing their local?????

The RAF will have hip flasks & a wine cellar conveniently to hand.

The navy was always about rum, sodomy & the lash so I believe they'll maybe need some space on the RFA for that.

I find this is always an amusing read and relevant to the thread. It may be a bit out of date but the message is clear.

Argentina's new conservative government said on Sunday night that it would continue to push the country's claim to the Falkland Islands, dashing hopes that a change of government in Buenos Aries may herald a new era of improving relations with London.

he has to no matter what he thinks personally, its political suicide there to drop or water down the claim.
Absolutely. It would be like a US republican saying "let's move on from the abortion debate".

Just send a company of sappers; they never go anywhere without building a bar, it's the first thing that gets built.

When I was in the British army we spent 2 weeks on a US army base in Washington state.

I was 19 at the time and this presented a problem with my required daily British army booze intake, as in no booze with the drinking age being 21 in the USA and actively enforced on US army bases

We slipped some american squaddies cash, they went out in two cars, and returned a few hours later with 2 trucks full of booze smile

or so we thought.

They got pulled over while out as one of them was chugging beers in the back.
The plod didn't like it so they made them pour the whole load down the drain at the side of the road!

NNNNNnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Was not a happy camper.

later on, one of our medics went out, and managed to get 3 cases of beer over the fence while the guards where not looking wink

I managed to get drunkish that night.

I can assure you no RN ship goes to sea without a full beer store smile

But at some point they might run out, that's what the RFA is for. hehe

How does Argentina claim a place that was founded before Argentina itself? It existed before Argentina and so how can they claim it back? It was in British hand before when uninhabited, etc.

yes

We should claim Argentina (or Silvery Land) due to the proximity to British territory

There are some bits of it I'd love to visit, Terra de Feugo? for example.
