...aaand it's not happening, at least for some time:

Apparently we are blocking their attempts to acquire Gripen. Surprised by their interest really, with the amount of input BAE Systems has do they really think we can't manage to install a 'surprise' in their avionics as insurance?

No harder than Nissan's Track GPS thing on the GT-R. I guess they could say "If this plane takes off from Buenos Aires, instead of firing guns and missiles on command, replace all cockpit display images with the word 'BANG' and turn off the engines".

what's the point in buying new planes if they can't even afford to maintain the ones they have already got?

Expensive paperweights?

Political posturing.

Argentina's a beautiful country with fantastic people on the whole IME. Led by a bunch of corrupt crackpots who have no clue or interest in fixing the real problems of the country as they're either too hard or don't achieve personal aims.

Our politicians are bad. But compared to theirs they're angels.

Was somewhat surprised to learn recently that the USN helps out in keeping Argentine Navy pilots and aircraft carrier qualified.

Just because it only happens every 5 years doesn't make it ok - just like shagging your sister isn't ok just because you don't do it often wink

The U.S. considers them more suitable than a communist regime in South America, obviously at the moment though the Chinese seem to be throwing lots of cash at Argentina.

If someone's got to play the targets for their Navy and Airforce might as well be the Argies.

Although to be honest it doesn't sound like they've got enough machinery to take part these days anyway.

Well, Mrs Karcher has lost the election, not that she could stand any more but her party is out.

Wonder what Putin will do now, no more shore leave there to be had?

Well if she ever leaves anyway, they are currently arguing over where and when the handing over of powers happens!

wow, she is being well naughty

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/07/world/americas/h...

"In her last days in office, she has appointed ambassadors and signed decrees that will drain federal coffers. Her political appointees refuse to resign"

http://dealbreaker.com/2015/12/cristina-kirchner-g...

"Argentine President Cristina Kirchner is moving at a breakneck pace to increase public spending, fill government jobs and increase the debt that may have to be paid by her successor"

I don't think any extra proof was needed that she's nuts.

Though it does sound a bit more like an extreme version of what Labour did in the run up to 2010 smile

Lolz. South American dictatorships make Gordon Brown look like Martin Lewis. I'm pretty neutral on this matter, but I would like to see the plastic-faced woman or her successor get their asses whooped again.
