Yeah but it was the filling in with the money stuff that was the coup de grace.

& equities have tanked (S & P was as high as 1387, now 1361) - for a little while at least- sort of where we were before Draghi made his Superman comments last week

Draghi back trecking in conference - he has been told off by the Germans for his euphoric announcement last week. Weasel words from a politician - quelle surprise.

So a very, very, brief bounce has been followed by a dramatic fall. The IBEX 35 has tumbled 4pc, while the FTSE Mib has shed 2.4pc and Frankfurt's DAX is down 1.55pc.

Last Friday, July 27th.

17.16 European markets have ended the week on a high. The IBEX 35 in Madrid closed up almost 4pc at 6,617.60, while the FTSE Mib in Milan ended the day up 3pc at 13,596.

Draghi has lost his credibility IMO.

It was all "may/might happen", and he doesn't know if bond purchases are limited or unlimited. But we do know the counterparty will be our old friend the unstable lifeboat called the EFSF.... FTSE down nearly 1% since he started talking.

I felt a bit sorry for Draghi, notwithstanding his bluster last week. He's quite correct that monetary policy can't correct a political vacuum. He's a clever guy who understands the illness but isn't allowed the key to the medicine cupboard.

Death Spiral begins again.. what a disaster of a conference. Laying out the same demands on leaders that will be unfulfilled again. Holidays for the European leaders now too, will be interesting to see how that's handled and how the markets will react to it.

I remember them fking off for their Euro-peasant month-long break last year and thinking they would be right royally ttted for it. I was wrong.

ETA, interesting take on Germany & Deutschmarks here: http://www.zerohedge.com/contributed/2012-08-02/do...

simply a case of buy on the rumour, sell on the news. Usual scenario, market manipulation to prey on emotions.

Can I ask a really really dumb question? Why did any of you think Draghi had any credence before?

I didn't think anyone did? The only thing I was interested in is how bad it went for him.

With regard to holidays, I mean what headlines will there be while they're away but of course on the flipside I can imagine if they were cancelled the markets would slaughter them for it.
