For me, for example I spend as much on food in a year as I do on housing costs in about 2 months, so plainly my mortgage having been frozen since 2009 means inflation is pretty low.
Out of interest when that deal finishes and if the next one is significantly worse will you see that increase as being gradual (because they were not allowed to change it) over these years or only from the day the new deal starts?

eg if you pay £1000 pm fixed for 3 years and it then increases to £1500pm, would you see that as a 50% increase in your mortgage that year or a lower increase each of the 3 years which is really is?

I'd see it as a hit that year (mine's not fixed, it's tracker anyway).
And I suspect this is one of the causes for the arguments in this thread. Is the debate about the current level of CPI/RPI whatever under normal measures (i.e. over a year)? Or more about general price increases over time?

For example if fuel at the end of year 1 is £1.00, at the end of year 2 is £1.50 and at the end of year 3 is £1.65 - what is the inflation rate?

And we're addicted to them - the status, the shinyness, the stuff-it-up-the-neighbours. For all their undoubted faults, the ClubMedders have always prioritised many other things ahead of motors, they would sooner die than live in a Barrat box eating beans on toast, in order to afford the tick on a new Audi S-Line.

I've noticed that Wickes have whacked up their prices since the demise of Focus. They used to be great value but they're now on a par or more expensive than B&Q. I usually end up in Screwfix now. Even they've put they're prices up though.

The more you patronise the big 3 supermarkets the more small retailers go out of business the more you eventually have to pay for stuff. When I lived in the UK I bought everything I could at local stores. People drive 10 miles to go to Tesco to save a few quid and then bleat when prices go up because there is no competition.

Me, Meijer. Mrs U prefers Kroger.........

I really miss the small town butcher, baker, greengrocer etc.. that doesn't exist so much here. I do try and buy local when I can and there are some good deli's etc..

Maybe the US is a good example of what happens when people don't shop local and you basically end up with 3 or 4 huge chains dominating. The Walmart effect.

Hmmm .. before we start to bestow our Club Med brothers with platitudes .. they also have a pretty relaxed attitude to work whereas Brits generally work long hours to keep those payments on the new Audi S-Line*. But agree the BoE is potentially creating a huge moral hazard and i'll bet some of my devalue pounds that QE will lead to more QE, unless the government seriously reigns in public spending - which in turn will lead to us paying more for public services, instead of shiny new toys ..

  • - FFS is this the new benchmark? I paid for mine in cash frown

Shapiro's, downtown, is one of the very best in the mid-west.

Legendary reuben sandwiches.

I like Vine and Table in Carmel for cheese and wine too.
