Permission to shout loudly.... Obese woman demanding 50 hours care a week 'went to pop concert'

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/health/healthnews/90840...

I love the comment;

The judge stopped short of ordering the council to provide chaperones when the woman attends the gym, her weight management programme or Friday night discos.
Stressing that he was in no way pre-judging the issues in the case, the judge said the council's position "may ultimately be vindicated".

And in case anyone wasn't pissed off enough, that'll all be on legal aid.

She'll be dead soon enough.

I think we should positively encourage fatties to eat/drink/smoke more, it'll be cheaper and save the country money in the long run.

I couldn't get out of bed the last 2 days (only to vomit!), not been well. Stories like this make me sick too. Can I claim some assistance and aid to get me over the money I've lost?

The 'real' problem in this sad state of affairs is in this sentence:

'Despite those claims, the woman's LAWYERS are bidding to convince the High Court the council is legally obliged to lay on a full care regime for her, including support staff to help her wash and dress herself and cook her meals.

What's wrong with this country today?

Edited so that the hard of thinking who might read this might misunderstand you and think that you are suggesting that it is all the fault of her legal representation.

Do the lawyers have to take the case then?
Surely they could just tell her to do one?

rolleyes
FFS.

1. IANAL
2. The case has nothing to do with the lawyers and all to do with the law.

Our government makes the laws, the people follow/don't follow/are disadvantaged/benefit from them, lawyers have the necessary skills to take the great unwashed's rants and turn them into something that can be put before a judge, judges are responsible for interpreting the law with respect to the facts presented by the lawyers, the public decide whether or not they agree, if not, our government has to change/tweak/improve/abolish the law.

It's quite right that a lawyer would take this case. If the judge rules in her favour, then she was right to instruct them as the law says she is entitled to have 15 carers to wipe her arse, according to the laws which govern our country and were created by our elected government. CHANGE THE LAW THEN. If she was wrong, and gets her legal fees paid anyway, CHANGE THE LAW.

Explain how all of this is the lawyers fault please?

Good on whoever it was in the council who said her biggest problem is dependency on the state!

I thought people being dependent on the state was what most councils strived for?

Lawyers are always telling us that legal aid work is not profitable though. I saw 2 prominent local solicitors wingeing as much on the local news the other day.

50 hours per week?
I'm sure there are many people far more deserving of this level of care?

Obviously the answer is let her carry on without carers, she'll stink & starve if she really can't wash or cook. Bet she learns how to do both really quickly though.

You'd think so, but where I used the live there was a woman who zipped around on one of those mobility scooters all the time: her 'disability' was that she was obese, and she was quite happy to tell everyone about it.

That may be true.
But if I was too fat, my first thought would not be to go to law. The gym or Weightwatchers possibly, but not a barrister.

If my life turned to ratst through self infliction why should I expect someone to bail me out, especially on legal aid, maybe 'legal insurance cover' as sold with car/house insurance etc should be compulsory to 'try' & put an end to 'spurious' legal aid & no win no fee type work for lawyers.
