The price of diesel has hit a new high, at 143.05 pence a litre, figures have suggested
The previous high was 143.04p, in May 2011, at the height of the "Arab spring
I wonder how long before it hits 150.00 pence a litre?

Kudos

Why use super unleaded in a mazda6? I used to use it in my jap import legacy but only because it was set up for jap spec 100 ron fuel, and if i didn't it would start to knock.

I use it in my Verso S and get another 30 miles to the tank with it over normal unleaded. The newer engines will sort out the octane difference and give you more MPG.

Whenever i use unleaded as a last resort i always notice a difference.

Because the manual and the sticker in the fuel flap specifies minimum 98RON fuel. . . . . . . .

Then you're probably on the wrong forum. No-one likes the price of fuel but many of us aren't going to let it stop us enjoying our cars.

A gallon (litre) of diesel contains about 15% more energy than a gallon (litre) of petrol. Until diesel costs at least 15% more than petrol it's still "cheap".

Which is why electric cars are utter nonsense, at least until someone designe a high capacity long-life battery with very low mass. Look at whole life-cycle and apply the same "energy taxes" and electric cars would never get off the drawing board.

Is there any cost advantage to running a diesel car at the moment then?
Increased MPG but increased cost must mean that there is not, I would have thought.
