So, obviously not too perplexed by the levels of quality journalism at NI generally and The Sun & NOTW specifically, the Aussie purveyor of media muck is soon about to finally launch "The Sun on Sunday", continuing the format on from its forcibly closed NOTW sister no doubt.
BBC News linky

Surely whilst the printers devil has been (albeit self-induced) bereft of one of his (Sunday) publications, controls/laws could have been introduced to prevent anybody controlling so much of the print media, let alone the level of control across all media platforms.

Humbled by the select committee, my arse.

Now, if only they can find the proof that Murdoch Jnr knew about and approved payments to Police and others in public life we could be onto a winner.

Murdoch thinks that if he ingratiates himself enough in the right places he can still get away with this.

I very much hope that he's wrong.

Now that police corruption is fully on the table it will soon become apparent that you can't have "bribed" policemen without "bribing" journalists. And it will be equally apparent that junior journo's can't chuck substantial envelopes of cash at the police without the full agreement of their bosses.

Well it took him a bit longer than we expected, but he did exactly what PH predicted he would. I was going to ask if he thinks that this is long enough for the dust to settle on the NOTW but its a pointless question. Its readers never gave a fk about how the reporters got their stories as long as they continued to spoon feed them the sensationalist and intrusive drivel that they crave. I predict that the Sun on Sunday will sell very well indeed. And that saddens me.

He might need the Sun on Sunday if the Sun itself goes down in flames.

Good on him, I'm fed up with the BBC and Guardian arselickers and couldn't care less about phone 'hacking' a few celebs who were dumb enough to leave their voicemail password as the default one.

I am concerned about the access they had to the police, but that doesn't seem to be raised at all.

Should be interesting to hear what happens once Trinity and Guardian.

The police side is not just the Sun remember.

I'm sure the families of British servicemen killed in combat, parents of murder victims, and countless other ordinary people will be overjoyed to learn that you have promoted them to being 'celebs' rolleyes

Did NI kill men in combat, murder schoolgirls etc - nope.

Are they the ones getting loads of media coverage from Levinson - nope.

You're completely missing my point; they accessed the voicemails of far more people than just the 'few dumb celebs' that you so dismissively claim.

No I'm not, the celebs are the only ones who are getting coverage and in any case accessing voicemails isn't the end of the world.

The BBC and Guardian want to nail News International, that's what this whole thing comes down to.

Did the police allow themselves to be bribed - yep. Far more disturbing than 'tabloid journalist uses underhand methods' in my opinion, but not in line with the bash NI agenda.

Well I have certainly heard about Milly Dowler`s Parents and others giving evidence at the Levinson enquiry. Maybe you should listen to the BBC you seam to despise so much to educate yourself before making such crass comments.Surely even so called celebrities have a right to privacy?
The context in which hacking occured was simply horrific and indefensible in such circumstances;especially when it gave parents hope that the missing daughter was still accessing voicemails.

I think all right minded citizens would want NI and its employees held accountable for their actions, particularly those at the top who set the culture and standards of the whole organisation.

Your exact quote was that you "couldn't care less about phone 'hacking' a few celebs who were dumb enough to leave their voicemail password as the default one" and I am maintaining that it is far more serious and extensive than that. You're free to claim white is black and call an apple an orange if you want to, but don't expect people to agree with you.

The level of coverage was manifestly tilted to cover the celebs.

I think it's you that needs to educate yourself more - there is no evidence that Milly Dowler's voicemails were deleted by NI, though it's unsurprising that you missed this given papers who made the allegation are hardly likely to shout about it.

The murder of a daughter is "horrific and indefensible", yes, not listening to someone's voicemails.

The ability to pay the police for information is far more worrying as although the results were harmless in this case (a few voicemails intercepted) they might not be in others.

It's pretty indefensible that they were accessed at all though. What if the reporter accessing them had accidentally deleted some? That would be potentially tampering with evidence which is a criminal offence.

Not really sure what axe you have to grind here, but you seem to regard as trivial something that is actually quite serious.

No axe at all, I was wondering the same about you (usually plod/anti-Murdoch?). In the grand scale of things I cannot judge accessing voicemails as particularly serious at all.

I'd hope it would teach people to change thier passcode though...
