Come on now Countdown, I think you've taken this particular post completely out of context. How many times do we hear a representative of Islam tell us that this is a religion of peace and tolerance and, in the next breath, call for a jihad against a person or country because they've caused offence? If it truly is a religion of peace there would be no accommodation of calls for assassination, if it were truly tolerant it would accept that there will be alternative viewpoints. Put aside your previous arguments that the majority of Muslims distance themselves from the activities of the few that I (I can't speak for anyone else) find both repellant and a real threat to our freedom of speech and expression - don't you see the inherrent contradiction? Genuine question.

All religion is divisive, thankfully in the majority of the Western world we have relegated religion to such a point that it doesn't have to figure in our world if we choose to ignore it (excepting the doorstep visits from Jehovah's Witnesses, but they can be quite good fun if truth be told), a couple more genuine questions:

Why have so many devout muslims chosen to settle here knowing that we have an increasingly secular society which is not likely to offer their religion any special respect?

Why do these same people feel that we should offer this exceptional level of respect (we don't for our own religion after all) and then get upset when we choose to promote free speech over fawning accommodation?
