TheHeretic said: 2 Soldiers a few days ago, 12 yesterday, another 6 today. For some reason, Muslims of this ilk seem to think that their own beliefs are above and beyond the rights of others. They are idiots. Was there no thought given to the fact that Islamic law was broken by the prisoners writing in the texts in the first place, or that burning defaced Korans is acceptable by the same law? I see copies of the "Picture Bible" in the children's section of Barnes & Nobles. I suppose that would bring down a whole city if "Mohamed's Journey in Pictures" was published.

Don't be daft, they only take offense if others do it. It is undoubtably an excuse to riot and be upset. Their religion makes them special, and gives them license to be offended, and cause chaos. It was the same with the cartoons. They were offended, so rioted and killed people. They never took any notice, however, of the Muslim cartoons about Israel, etc.

It just needs a small change in procedures to a procedure more acceptable to the locals
Old procedure
Find prisoner using book to pass message then set fire to the book
Thinfourth procedure

The West should just vacate Afghanistan, dropping a fuel-air bomb onto the rioters as a goodbye. There's not much oil there, and the 'war on terror' is a waste of time, so I don't see why we need to stay. I don't give a s t what happens to the Afghan people. The hearts and mind things was always doomed to failure and this just proves it. I think I heard on the news that it was an Afghan policeman who killed two US soldiers, so if that's true it illustrates the futility of the whole affair.

Like parts of Africa, they are just not capable of helping themselves, and as a result, they will always be a bronze age, s tty country.

Build a great big wall around the place and pretend they're not even on the same planet as the rest of us. the last time I said something along those lines, a lot of people were upset and used the R word. One problem is that there are too many of the nutters here already, complete with ooman rights lawyers. Perhaps it's an encouraging sign that people have had enough of these ignorant morons, god knows I try to see both sides of the story but.....they clearly deserve nothing and should get nothing. Allah is their be all and end all. Let him sort their problems out and let our lads come home

You can only supplicate to this s t for so long, it isn't going to get better, they aren't going to start being reasonable, it is a waste of time. I was all for the removal of the Taliban from Afghanistan to start with but now, like carmonk (and the Russians two decades ago) I think we should just leave them to it. There is no way we can make any sense of this because they don't possess any sense. These problems are not geographical, or even political, they are theological. Territory, rights and government are just secondary to this nonsense. An over-simplification I know but while we have holy books we will never have tolerance, or more importantly, pragmatism.

I remember the politicians saying that it will be different than before and history won't repeat itself.
If there is one thing history does every single time...
It show you how fundamentally dumb we are as a race even when we think we're the clever ones.

I agree somewhat; however, I believe much of what you describe is tribal/cultural as much as religion.

Their religion is used to justify their tribal, f ked up ways. If they want that, have at it. Leave them to it, and let them live in the squalor that their beliefs will bring them.
