It was always going to happen of course. This cemetry survived all the years under Gadaffi and then this happens.

I'm sure they would have enjoyed living under Nazi rule if those brave soldiers hadn't done their jobs - oh wait, they'd have been ethnically cleansed decades ago

Savages - stone age mentality with modern technology :-(

The moronic leaders of the West, seeking short term returns will soon understand why savage dictators were previously left in control of such nations.

Will be interesting to see if the normal residents repair the damage done by the backward members.

Some people on this planet require an iron fist to keep them in check. It is just a fact of life. Pretending otherwise is not going to do us or them any favours.

Wait for a while longer when a free libya cannot provide the freebies to the people that gaddafi used to provide in return for towing the line. See what happens then. A lot of people on PH predicted this a long time ago...I for one am waiting for the moment to say. We told you so!

And to think of the fuss they make when a book gets burned. Here they are, descrating the dead, smashing headstones, taking hammers to Christian symbols. I've just about had enough of the double standards that the "Religion of Peace" displays every day around the world.

Having spent many years studying political history I have to say that this is totally correct. The only way to teach such peoples how to live any other way is to slowly reduce the levels of dependence and control over many, many years so that 3 or 4 generations down the line they are truly able to cope with a 'democratic' life.

Look at Russia for an example of the growing pains that are experienced, but although it is not a World most of us would want to live in they are slowly evolving. Sure 2 steps forward one back but such as is with any worthy endeavour usually.

Equally the reverse is true, just look at how feckless and 'lost' many of our own countrymen and women are without the firm hand of state control to guide, cajole and, if required, force them to become useful members of society.

"Apology" from the NTC, apparently bigger, foreign boys did it and ran away.

Quite where our obsession with getting involved in other people's civil wars comes from I don't know. Muzzer terrorists are still wking on about the crusades ffs, as yet no thanks for saving them from being ethnically cleansed in Bosnia either.

Why the inverted commas? Clearly they're embarassed by the act of a bunch of idiots.

To quote the article: "The cemetery attack had cause considerable anger and distress in the city. Shocked Benghazi residents have spoken of it as an “insult” and a “humiliation”. Some people have suggested that the attacks were deliberately done for political purposes — to damage relations with the UK and undermine the image of the new Libya."

An expression of "deep regret" followed by vague insinuations of foreign involvement doesn't meet my definition of an apology.

You're writing off his expressing regret, saying it's unislamic, and a criminal act, and that they're hoping to catch and prosecute the perpetrators because he's suggested some of them might have been foreign? Not to mention the apparent shock and dismay of the local townfolk.

OK.

Watching the original video it's clear to me that it's the Libyan equivalent of our own chav sub-culture, who have also desecrated grave yards repeatedly.

I can't see any political motive here, it's just some young fkwits with some misguided ideas carrying out mindless vandalism. If it was a load of scouse chavs doing the same thing, we wouldn't see it as representative of what all of Liverpool think.

Last year. on holiday, I visited the commonwealth war cemetary at Monte Cassino in Italy, 4000 graves, most of our boys were aged between 19-22...The place was immaculate with not a blade of grass out of place.

This is mindless and heartbreaking, especially for their relatives.

Exactly.

It's in a state of transition. Of course you'll get incidents like this, and I find it very odd to write off whole nations as a bunch of savages because of the actions of a handful.

It takes time for a nation to rebuild, but many, if not most, countries have done exactly that at some point in the past.

No bks.

Stop making bleeding excuses.

They and their bleeding backwards medieval religion should be treated like the scum they are.
If they didn't have the geographical coincidence of being sat on the oil, no one would give a st about them.

From now on just let the censored kill themselves and just close the borders to the lot of em.

Every sodding mohammad inspired one of em.

Enough is enough surely.
