All that is needed now is a real 'man of the people' to emerge from the massing crowds and Russia will become unstable.

A terrifying prospect looms on the horizon, Europe is reliant on Russian energy and I doubt if anyone can now 100% rely on next winters supply.

This one event makes our exploitation of Shale Gas an imperative.

It could even destroy the Euro as the final nail in the coffin.

I think if Russia descends into anarchy the rest of Europe suffers a similar fate.

I'm with you with the shale gas exploitation. This resource has the potential to solve all of our energy needs for decades to come.

Imagine being energy self-sufficient. It would give an enormous economic boost to the economy.

Unfortunately, the environmentalists would do everything in their power to stop it. Oh for a government like Canada's which has gone on the offensive against WWF, Greenpeace et. al.

SOrry for taking it slightly OT.

My money would be on Putin utterly crushing any insurrection, likely in a manner to make Syria seems like a bunch of carebears.

I have quite a few Russian friends (well educated, well off type, multilingual) - they are now all discussing emigration...

I bet, I can hear you singing...

'Be-bop-a-Lula, Putin drives me crazy'

There'll be no anarchy. More likely to be anarchy here than in Russia.

It's not like they have a history of violent insurrection. But I think Putin is too powerful, lots of low-down authority figures that depend on his power.

Russia isn't descending into anarchy because of another rigged election.

Russians are the loadsamoney ball headed thugs of Europe. Visit popular holiday destinations like Goa or Thailand or Egypt and they're everywhere throwing their cash around and shouting at the hotel staff. They arrive in high density 747s hundreds at a time with their 80s clothes and stripper girlfriends. The last thing they're interested in is democracy. hehe

As said before, their table manners are appalling as well.

All these Russian brides are supposed to be stunning, but they all seem to want to be Bonnie Tyler and Kate Bush.

Yeah, none of what the OP just said is going to happen. Probably some large scale protests, perhaps a few riots..

Then putin will go on camera wresting a child away from a mountain lion and the public will forget about the rigged election.

There's a lot of problems in Phuket with Russian gangsters taking over the bars and drugs/prostitution. The Oligarchs are moored out to sea in super yachts and the thugs are fighting with locals to control the nightclubs. Meanwhile Ladyboys and strippers are still smacking tourists with foam bats in Suzy Wong's A Go Go bar though. hehe

sounds about right...

My dad's "local" bar in Pattaya is a geordie hang out and run by a bloke from Newcastle.

One night a Russian, smashed off his face walked in and started getting obnoxious, demanding drinks and generally being a tw@t. So he was asked to leave.

About 10 minutes later he returned with a massive machete and tried to have a go at the bar owner. He was quickly pounced on by all the Brits, not to fond of having their evening spoiled and proceeded to have the sh!t well and truly kicked out of him until he was a bloody mess on the floor.

The police showed up, looked at the CCTV footage, grabbed the Russian and hauled him off to jail. That was the end of it.

As mentioned, Russia won't fall into anarchy. They don't mess about if people step too far out of line.

His youth army:

quite scary, even the first few minutes the police (hard as nails) are scared of these guys:

VIDEO

Highlights:
- The FSB (formerly KGB) is also housed in Nashi's 5 story headquarters
- The police is afraid of them, and doesn't even seem to dare to arrest them when they spray graffiti on the front of the US embassy.
- This youth movement has the power to arrest people.
- They 'accidentally' show up at places where Putin's cronies are facing resistance: at one place they harass some garage owners, and in the other instance they harass a green movement. It's purely coincidence the garage owners were blackmailed earlier.
- Having a succesfull business and not letting political cronies buy some shares at a discount? Enjoy jail.
- Having a political opinion not in line with Putin? Enjoy jail.
