Films set in 1969/1970 London
Discussion
I love films set around this time in London, everything looks so different yet so familiar.
Also the fashion and the music seems to be constant with this particular time, neither '60s or 70s yet really good. Also the cars look so different, with lots of 'old banger' 50s cars still being used by people together with 'modern' ones.
Watched Deep End the other night which is a great example of this type of film, but could have done with more shots of London, but the Cat Stevens music captures that time perfectly.
Bronco Bullfrog is another good example showing the tower blocks of 1970 East London.
I was only 3/4 at that time, but it seems like a completely different era. (Well it was really).
Am I making any sense here, or is it just my imagination?
Any other recommendations, if anybody knows what I'm on about? Think The Double Decklers but less Elstree more London.

Withnail and I was set in 1969.
And it does a reasonable job with the beaten up old Jag and spartan boozers. Maybe I shouldn't be so specific about 69/70 and maybe say 69-72, as I'm looking forward to Death Line on the horror channel this week which is st on the tube system and is from 1972.
Seeing the tube from that time is also a great love of mine as I used to be on it quite a bit at that time and it seems so different now.
Frenzy. Hitchcock. 1972 (a touch later that you might be thinking). Not many films better portray London in that era. Multiple scenes shot in and around the original Covent Garden, and Oxford Street.
Hitchcock grew up there, and that's why he spent a lot of time crafting the film to accuracy, and for me is almost the definitive capture.

The Bank Job was set in 1971
I used to live above Lloyds, in that very block. I once wandered in and was speaking to the bank manager at the time (chap called Stephen, who then moved to Piccadilly) and he told me the whole story. We joked that it should be turned into a film. A few years later it was Statham'd.tigerkoi said:

Cheers, that sounds like a worthwhile £5 punt on Amazon. Hitchcock grew up there, and that's why he spent a lot of time crafting the film to accuracy, and for me is almost the definitive capture.

How specific a date do you need!
THis thread reminds me of the sketch from little Britain when the man goes into teh toy shop asking for a Pirate Memory Game including octopuses and space shuttles.
That's exactly what I was reminded of as soon as I saw the thread title! How specific a date do you need!
