Fans blamed in Hillsborough files

The last time this came up, the thread was deleted. I expect the same culprits will be along any time now to create more mayhem.
Think I still have the foul and abusive email one PHer sent me on that occasion.
Edit...Ah, I see the current abusive post has just been deleted. My money was on trolling.

At the end of the day people would do well to remember that 96 people died at a football match.
That's the bit that gets lost in all the sloganing.Aids said:
I stood on that Leppings Lane terrace back in January 1988. I considered the place, putting it politely, a dump. The away end at Southampton was equally so. The FA were at fault for selecting this venue for a cup semi-final anyway!
I went home and away with Chelsea thru the 80s. 1st and 2nd division. EVERY GROUND WAS A DUMP! Wembley was a rathole. The annual crush in the Scoreboard Paddock at Old Trafford was scary. Anfield was hell. Maine Rd was an insult to slums. Upton Park was falling apart. Bloke in front of me at Filbert Street lost his eye when a coin was thrown. Our own ground, Stamford Bridge, was so bad the rats had fked off.
Highbury was the only half decent stadium in the country from memory.

With sincere respect to the families of those who died in this tragic event, are we going to be having "inquests" into what happened in fifty years time.
As long as lessons have been learnt, which I believe they have, leave it be.....
To be fair, this hasn't been generated by the NOK pressure groups. As long as lessons have been learnt, which I believe they have, leave it be.....
Remember Aberfan? When the disclosure from that came out we discovered that the government at the time took more than 100,000 from the donations of the public and gave it to the coal board. Blair made a big thing about giving it back, without interest of course, so saving a massive amount of money. Still makes me angry to think of it and that was 1966.
I wonder if there will be anything new revealed in this one.
Edited to add quote from Wiki - it was more than I remembered.
Although the Davies Report had found that the NCB's liability was "incontestable and uncontested" and it was widely felt that the NCB should have to bear the entire cost of removing the dangerous tips above Aberfan, Robens refused to pay the full cost, thereby putting the Trustees of the Disaster Fund under "intolerable pressure". Robens then "raided" the Fund for 150,000 to cover the cost of removing the tips an action that was "unquestionably unlawful" under charity law and the Charity Commission took no action to protect the Fund from Robens's dubious appropriation of funds.
In 1997 the incoming Labour government of Tony Blair paid back the 150,000 to the Disaster Fund, although this did not take into account inflation in the intervening period.
Further, they had a collection where I worked for the disaster fund. The vast majority put in. And then we found that the government nicked some of it. So perhaps this most recent disclosure should be studied carefully.

Thanks for that Derek, I did not know that the the NCB raided the Aberfan fund, that is disgusting. Stories like that serve to highlight the importance of getting the facts into the public domain, so that the truth becomes known and we get the chance to genuinely learn from our mistakes, in the vain hope that the generations to follow don't repeat them.
Is this observation Off Topic ?
The Taylor report recommended all-seater stadiums, and the top division clubs all converted accordingly. Why is it, then, that many of the fans seem to spend all their time standing up between the rows of seats, ranting and waving banners as they always did ?
You don't believe me ? Watch a match report at any time ....

Yes, it probably is off topic. All seater stadia allow a far greater control and seperation of fans. There are downsides to the set up but on the whole it keeps large lumps of excitable adults in check much better than open terraces. Surges are much much reduced.
People stand up because they get excited and the person infront stands. It might be easy to mock - especially since they are named "all seaters" - but that isn't to mean the design isn't massively aiding safety (and control).
There are (as ever) calls from many disparate groups to relax the laws on all seater grounds - for various reasons. It's entirely possible we will see this in the near future.

Ultimatly, the reason these fans died is that they were penned in behind high fences. These were installed due to pitch invasions and fan violence. Fans of other sports have never behaved in such a manner that meant they had to be caged like dangerous animals. Fortuantly these days seem to be mostly behind us.
