Hopefully it means he'll die in prison. And also that he'll be subjected to some fked up st from his housemates... hopefully.

Maybe I'm out of step with opinion but I'm glad we don't sentence people to death for any crime in the UK and I don't like all the masturbatory revenge fantasies posted about theoretical beatings delivered from other prisoners. The other prisoners are generally scumbags too, so I don't even think they're realistic.

Having said all that, six years doesn't seem a very long recommended sentence given the severe and prolonged attack he carried out and the horrific outcome for his ex-girlfriend.

Even criminals don't like rapists and paedos. This kind of crime against a woman will be badly received inside.

ETA - Referring to prison justice as "masturbatory revenge fantasies" ...in your view, not mine.

The minimum he can serve will be 6 years before he can apply for parole. He will then, if released be out on a licence and can then be recalled to prison at anytime if he breaches any conditions on this licence or reoffends again. In my view he should have got a lot longer than 6 years for this heinous crime.

The minimum term does seem unduly lenient, but I imagine this sentence is an IPP, or an Indeterminate Sentence for Public Protection, therefore he will not be released until deemed not to be a risk to society, and with extremely stringent licence conditions.

There's some nice, positive comments from the victim in that bbc article. I hope she does go on to make the best of her life and the scumbag actually goes on to feel guilt and remorse. Anyone with the slightest bit of humanity would find it impossible to live with themselves for what he's done. Give him a few years then give him access to some shoe laces and let nature take its course.

She was on the news this morning and the way she had turned her life around, with the intention of helping other victims of domestic violence, was very touching and inspiring.

However, it does beg the question - and it's a question I find myself asking every time there's a case like this - how on earth do men like this (a) manage to attract women in the first place, and (b) keep them coming back and even defending their actions time and again despite the abuse?

I think a lot of victims have either experienced a father figure abusing their mother when they were children or they've never had a proper father figure so don't have a model of how a relationship ought to work.

I wouldn't rule out a form of Stockholm Syndrome either. How many times have you heard the case of a policeman (or indeed anyone else) intervening to stop a man attacking a woman only to have her turn on him?

At what point can someone who has done this *ever* be considered "no risk" to society?

Seems only the cornea, not the eyeball.

Hateful individual. Should be gassed and then his body given to people who need transplants. No reason to have him in prison.
