What a tragic situation and what a brave lady!

- and six years is nowhere near long enough.
Saw her on the news yesterday and was suitably impressed by her. She's turned a thoroughly awful thing into a positive and is now doing things she would have never done before.

Local to me, guy is a known bellend. She was daft and put up with a lot of abuse and from him and then finally he flipped properly and did this. He had tons of previous too so it's not like she was surprised by it.

She has no option but to live with what has happened and I don't wish it on her at all but if you keep a lion expect to get eaten, I really don't understand people who get handed a beating yet carry on the relationship and don't press charges.

She should be going round telling women in a similar postion to the one she was in prior to the incident to get out, stay out and tell everyone about the abuse, then maybe, just maybe other death/injury can be avoided.

I am not unsympathetic, really I am not. My comment is not personal to her but a sweeping statement to all who put up with and hide physical abuse.

I'm not unsympathetic either, this animal deserves some serious karma.
Your suggestion that she uses this experience to warn other women is possibly the most positive outcome?

I find cases like these so tragic but also so avoidable. A certain type of person gets themselves involved with violent people like this and friends and family telling them that "he is no good" are rarely listened to. I just don't get the logic (if there is any) of why she stayed with him for as long as she did. He attempted this before by the way, he has a thing for eyes.

So yes, Hopefully the only positive will be she could tell others to "get out". She probably will not be heard. None so deaf as those who won't listen.

I read an article the other day about the SuperMax prison in Denver, poured concrete bed, concrete seat, 23 hours a day locked in the cell 1 hour in a larger cell so they can walk around. This is what we should have for people like this.
I was thinking something a bit like that. No need to go OTT but it seems quite obvious that this man must never, ever, ever be at liberty again and should be accommodated accordingly.

I've known girls in this situation and they always seem to think that the abusive partner will change eventually. And sometimes they do. Agree, if someone treated me like sh8t, then they wouldn't get a second chance - apparently I've got a feline personality i.e. a strong flight reflex. But some people tolerate a lot more abuse before then decide to leave - it's not as fine a line as you might think. Sadly in this case, it took the loss of her eyesight.

He will probably get out though, and return to Cornwall. He will not be inside for the rest of his life. It's a messed up world.
