Then steganography will see an uptake so they won't even know there's anything encrypted.

I can see a shift back to how things were 15 years ago - People buying pirate software, music and films on disc from a car boot sale or their mate/colleague who knows how to get around the restrictions.

Someone who knows what to do can easily dump the week's top 100 albums on a DVD and get to the boot sale on a Sunday morning to flog them for a couple of quid.

Would this fly at the European courts however? All TPB will have to do is prove that it impedes trade or steps on a human right and it'll be overturned.

Sure it does, but the argument would run along the lines of a drug dealer claiming the police are impeding his trade. (Given the fact that they have blocked the site .... Nothing to do with my opinion of the scenario).

Hopefully they will come up with a more creative and persuasive way to deal with it.

Apart from it's not a DNS block, judging by Virgin today, so switching DNS server does bugger all.

Tor works perfectly but my guess is that this block will cut off the vast majority of the UK users of pirate bay. I surprised that there's not a UK specific advice page near the top of google to help all the non tech savvy people out. It just needs a link to a web based proxy like http://anonymouse.org

I'm on TalkTalk (their own DNS servers) and piratebay.org redirects to thepiratebay.se and everything seems to work as normal.

Virgin have blocked it. frown

It's taken me at least...8 minutes to get it back again. smile

going with a free proxy - a bit slower, but I don't have to remember to use a web proxy.

Ooh, that's much easier. Are they allowed to censor a registered political party I wonder?

What I don't understand is why the British courts worry about American multi-millionaire movie stars being deprived of a few quid (if indeed they are).

Who cares?

Do the American courts worry about British sitcom actors losing out if Americans download episodes of The Peep Show?

I rather think not.

Well I must thank all those pointing out the loopholes here. I had a sudden panic attack when I thought Virgin had cut me off from my supply of American TV series 2 days before they air in the UK on a product (Sky) that I pay for anyway.

Politicians trying to solve a fking non-problem as usual. furious

it was the BPI (British recording industry) that brought the case to the court. They could try taking it to the US but the UK is a much better place for suing.

Here in China, very few people actually download and save any bit torrents, for movies. It's just so "old fashioned"
There are so many Chinese websites, where I can simply watch almost any movie, by live streaming.
Almost all the TV shows, both UK, and USA and Chinese, all available for watching whenever the mood takes.
One can of course, download the movies for saving, and watch later, but really there is no point.
It just fills up hard drive space.
I used to have hundreds of movies, now I recently deleted them all.
Just no point keeping them.
If I want to watch a movie, I simply jump on line, all free of course.

Hi Dave,

Not too difficult in Chinese, but very much more so in English.
Even then, the chances of an American or European demanding for them to close the site down,,,,,,,,,well, might as well just save your breath.

I don't trust the streaming sites. You never quote know what you may be clicking.

I'm having problems reaching TPB again. I cannot reach the original URL through anonymouse any more - that just times out. And the https site for Pirate Party has a "the site must be down" message, inviting you to try again in 15 mins but it's been like that for a few days.
