If we're saying the Islands are British, and that British levels of tolerance and freedom of expression are part of what the Islanders are all about ... isn't it a bit fkING STUPID to say that we ought to have used junta-style police-state powers to stop them from filming?
If you can't laugh this stunt off, you're not really British. IMHO.
Well said. I had a giggle when I saw it. It doesn't pose a threat at all so there's no point in getting po-faced about it. Just plays into their hands. If you can't laugh this stunt off, you're not really British. IMHO.

The islands aren't anything, they are islands...lumps of rock in the south atlantic. An island can't choose a preferred nationality, it's an inaminate object. The islanders can certainly be British, so that's what gives the islands their perceived nationality. But to say "the islands are British, the islanders are British" is kind of making 2 things British when there is only one.

If England qualify for Brazil 2014 maybe a few shots of Rooney running around in Buenos Aires with the slogan - "To win in South America we train in Spain" just to show the British have a sense of humour you know.
Not sure it sends out the right message to have Rooney as some kinda poster boy for the UK.FourWheelDrift said:

This may have been done already but didn't any of the locals/customs/forces notice a shed load of filming stuff/crew/actors coming over from Argentina? Didn't anyone actually check what they were up to? It's our own fault for not stopping it from happening.
I think they might get TV crews over occasionally to do proper war memorial bits from time to time, as well as ex-Argentinian veterans visiting graves. This one has rather taken the piss somewhat. The Argentinian people aren't stupid and the "masses" would [after a lot of shouting] get the point.
The point being they have been had once before and are being set up again.

Do we actually have any hopes of a medal in the Men's Hockey?
Yes.eharding said:
If not, I suggest we just substitute the GB team with a load of Marines for the match vs. Argentina in the initial round.
As soon as the whistle goes, they just mash the crap out of the opposition (some lead weighting in the hockey sticks might help here) - paying particular attention to our marathon-running chum - and then just moon-walk off the pitch. Sorted.

I said the islands were territorially British, and they are, a "British Overseas Territory" - if we hadn't won the Falklands war they could be Argentine, all without the land mass itself choosing to do anything...

Best way of sorting this out is to..................
Make sure all the Argentinian Olympic athletes and delegation receive full body cavity searches at customs, "finding" a few things and then deporting the whole lot back.Puggit said:

This isnt about tolerance and expression, this whole stunt is a piss take and dig at the UK, I'm not saying anything about Junta style operations, simply stating this isn't right and provocative stuff like this is bound to get people wound up.
Get off your high horse!

Pretty clever propaganda, I bet it makes the Argentines pretty smug and proud to see that, whilst it angers and wind's the Islanders and the Brits.
We need to follow up with the same type of thing by the SBS doing a secret excercise around one of their military air bases on the mainland.
I can see it now, with the tag line "To protect British soil, we train on Argentinian soil" We need to follow up with the same type of thing by the SBS doing a secret excercise around one of their military air bases on the mainland.
