Sometimes I look at this world and despair, all of us caught up in the eternal struggle to get on with our lives without interference from 6 billion numpties who seem to spend their time getting in our way.

Wouldn't it be nice if there was just one event where we all took our grievances and put them down for a few minutes, just spend a few seconds to breathe out, step back and see the wood instead of staring at the trees.

/me waves a little flag and looks forward to the torch reaching my current residence of Brighton. smile

You say that, but they buy the torch for £200 and pop it on Ebay. Not bad profit for the time it takes to run 300 yards.

Some are selling their official uniform as well.

they can't be genuine bids surely?

anyway, there are 8,000 torch bearers and each one had the chance to buy their torch for £240 (apparently subsidised from a cost price of £495), so there will be loads of them available soon enough
They spent £4m on torches, and have unrealistic ambitions of making £2m back. The olympics in a nutshell.

Why unrealistic?
If the bearers don't buy them plenty of others will ( for the full price)
I may buy one myself. Seems like a good investment.

Are you saying the general public can buy them for £500?

Because those Ebay auctions seem pointless if so.

I don't know. But the organisers could easily recover their costs. £500 seems cheap to me.

Exactly.
OP says he popped along to have a look and was impressed, what's the problem. Look, the government is going to waste your money anyway so they may as well do it on something pleasant. The weather forecast is looking good, you've got the Jubilee and the Olympics coming up (if nothing else they'll smarten the country up for a while) nice long weekend coming up in a couple of weeks. Cheer up folks, life's too short.

Ducked into Exeter earlier to get a new phone. Jesus, it was rammed!
I've just watched parts of the relay, I've been looking out for a colleague who is running with it.
Not my cup of tea being honest, but they look like they're doing a good job with it.

Matt..

It comes to Cardiff next weekend so i'll go and take a look smile

If there was a chance to buy a torch for sensible money i'd buy one, and many other people also would.

Security seem quite discrete today. Must be a pain having to deal with jerks like this.

Have just spoken to my Dad on the phone - even though he had a grandstand view from his apartment for the procession in Torquay - he only managed to see the motorcade as then he was meeting and greeting othes who'd come to watch the procession from his window ( he'd invited them rolleyes)- who all being old, managed to get there after it had all finished.

Surely it should be THE Olympic torch. Not The thousands of Olympic torches.
