I've never seen the point in having 'just one'. When you've had the taste and cna't have any more it spoils the night. I'd rather have none at all. I've always seen the drink drive limit as the safety net for the day after rather than having one.
That sounds like the start of a problem to me
Jeez, are you following me??

I've never been to the pub 'for one'. I tend to go for several. Like most people I know.

If you go out for a meal, do you have several as well?

Sometimes. I certainly wouldn't go for one and then have a juice. I'd rather have none or a few.

So you go to the pub to watch a game of football. You get a round in before kick-off and half way through the first half your mate says "same again?".

Do you say a) "yes please, cheers mate" or b) "no thanks mate, one is enough for me, I'll just have a Britvic 55"

I'm not saying every time you have a beer you have to be smashed. I'm saying that I just don't see the point or enjoyment in having a single drink. I'd rather have no drink at all and therefore have no concerns about the limit, or have the freedome to have two, three or more and not worry about anything.

B as a taxi to my house is about £50

Fair enough but if I was in your position then I'd not have anything to drink and take the car.

Fair enough. FWIW, I usually only have 1 or 2 (if bottled) with a meal regardless of if I'm driving simply because of the huge price of booze at most restaurants.

Trying to write the next bit without beer-snobbery creeping in; try to think of it as justifying having a 'stupid' car in a non petrolhead's eyes. I drink beer because I like the taste, not to get drunk. I'll quite happily have one beer and nurse it for a few hours (though it's hard work!). I also like matching beer with the food I'm ordering, that gets a bit difficult if I'm stuck on soft drinks.

I have no problem with people who go to the pub to drink 6 pints of Lager; in fact I do myself sometimes.

This law isn't aimed at the people causing the trouble, it's going to affect where I want to go for a meal (for example, I probably wouldn't bother driving to South Queensferry as regularly) and as a result it's probably going to affect nice, small pubs who are situated in the arse end of nowhere.

Meh, in for a penny, in for a pound. I do enjoy a good few beers with my tea when I'm out biggrin

This is true, but if I've got the car I've got a reason to avoid the wallet rapeage!

Decided years ago not to have a drink and drive, for me it's just not worth it.

I do not agree with the lowering of the limit though, it seems to have served us well and I wonder what evidence there is to back up the reasoning.
