Assange might be a bit of a gobste as a person, but he certainly needs credit for exposing a lot of stuff that politicians would like to keep from public scrutiny.
It's been a while since a consensus was evident. Should he be in the clink or not. Sexy time issues notwithstanding

But, Sweden are pursuing Assange who is accused of rape for taking off a condom whilst having consensual sex? Pull the other one...

How terribly twenty first century of you.
Ah, thankyou for the selective quoting.

I live in Scandinavia.

The point I was making was not about the yogurt coughing, it's about the Swedes, who preside over the world's rape capital, pursuing a foreign individual for a non-violent sexual assault. An assault that was reported 'very' after the fact. I'm am NOT saying that they shouldn't prosecute or pursue him, I'm saying that it is VERY FISHY that they are pursuing Assange when they should be dealing with the forced, violent and gang rapes that are sweeping Sweden.

Is that clear?

No the way I read it.

He's saying that it doesn't stack up that the Swedes would have no interest in even worse, easier to prosecute, cases yet pursue this one. Not that they shouldn't be pursuing all of them.
Cheers! You got exactly what I was saying. thumbup

I believe you really have to live in Scandinavia, or better yet in Sweden, to fully understand how absurd the whole situation is.

I agree. And I say that having supported the victim of such a violent sexual attack through the Scandinavian legal system that is stacked against the woman! It is truly terrible - and why I am Uber-suspicious of the Swedes/Assange case!!!

So Mr Assange.....

"WikiLeaks says its founder Julian Assange will turn himself in to U.S. authorities under one condition: Chelsea Manning must get clemency.
"If Obama grants Manning clemency, Assange will agree to U.S. prison in exchange—despite its clear unlawfulness," the company wrote in a Tweet that linked to a document calling for more transparency in the U.S. Justice Department's investigation into WikiLeaks. Assange’s lawyer Barry Pollack signed the document."

I bet when Assange heard that news he thought.. "oh st!"

Let's see if he squirms out of it. I bet my left nut sack when that "pledge" was made it was under the reasonable assumption that Manning would not be getting out any time in the next few decades.

Did Obama commute her sentence or was it clemency?

Definition of clemency
plural clemencies
1
a : disposition to be merciful and especially to moderate the severity of punishment due <The judge ignored the prisoner's pleas for clemency.>
b : an act or instance of leniency <The governor's clemencies saved the lives of many death-row prisoners.>

Definition of commute
commuted; commuting
transitive verb

3
: to change (a penalty) to another less severe <commute a death sentence to life in prison>

IMHO, there will be a get-out somewhere..

Wow. Obama is letting all the criminals go free.

Assange will probably squirm out of it by saying his pledge was done under Obama, not Trump. He will get a 100-year sentence under Trump, so is unlikely to be leaving London any time soon.

Nah.

Extradited to the US. Who hand him to Sweden. Found guilty of rape. Serves a sentence there. Then gets bounced to the US/Guantanamo smile

I trust everyone knows that there is no American extradition request pending for Julian, personally I think he should just stay where he is for a couple more decades, it's a pity IMO that something that started as a force for good wikileaks has become part of the political game rather than staying above it.

Our intel agencies have a history of sex smears. Right now Wiki has some of the old documents up from the FBI threatening to smear Martin Luther King in a similar manner.

Futhermore, there was also a recent attempt to smear Assange as a pedo; info. breaking down the situation is also at Wiki and ZH.

I do (I should have said released to the US, though Assange is evidently using words to try and prove he was right all along).

Wikileaks has always been about Julian Assange IMO. And a childish view on freedom of speech and secrets.

Assange has been a proven liar and game player. He may not deserve life in prison but he should he held to account for his actions.
