No this whole thing has been over Assange releasing confidential US documents and the US are severely pissed and want him on swedish soil so they can extradite and jail him for life or something similar.

Given the bloke is the subject of some serious sexual assault accusations it doesn't seem unreasonable for Sweden to be asking him to pop over for a chat. It's not as if Sweden is some hick African dictatorship.

Well if what is reported about the claims they are not in fact that serious at all after all. A broken condom is a crime it seems.

Also bear in mind as I have said before Assange has offered to go to and answer questions in Sweden providing he is guaranteed immunity from extradition to the US and it has been flatly refused.

It has also been pointed out by him and his pr people that Sweden have been known to quite happily come to the UK to ask questions of people who have actually been charged of crimes which he is not.

Hence I think he is perfectly justified in his actions. It's all way too fishy. If Sweden want to ask him questions they can come to the UK and ask them or they can guarantee him immunity from the US and he will go to them.

Ecuador will suck its thumb for a few weeks then refuse asylum. One third of their exports go to the USA, they're not going to risk Uncle Sam's ire for a Wally like Assange.

Without going further in to it here, CIA have been known to act in Sweden with the gov'ts blessing. There are plenty of rape accusations against foreigners and Swedes living abroad, for some strange reason they are not extradited, or even asked to be extradited.

Patino said that one of the alleged victims filed a complaint, because she "realized that on certain nights, the condom broke."

WHAT THE ****?

This entire thing has been over a condom broken, that must be one of the most ridiculous laws ever that a woman could make an complaint to the police about that?
There's a chance (I'll leave it up to you to decide how big a chance) that Patino is completely misrepresenting what is alleged to have happened.

I'm sure the women involved think it's just as hilarious as the Ecuadorian foreign minister.

Or not, perhaps.

That happened in the UK as well. If anything, it would be more difficult for the US to extradite Assange from Sweden than the UK.

Let's face it, Assange just doesn't want to go and answer the awkward questions they have for him in Sweden. His attempts to run away are just losing him such friends as he once had. Sooner or later he's toast IMO. Which is a shame. I rather liked what Wikileaks claimed to stand for.

Don't forget that Sweden is "neutral", UK isn't. I wouldn't bet any of my money against an extradition, or something...

Why doesn't Sweden ask to extradite the hundreds of other rape accused from abroad?

Where have you got this information from? (not saying it's wrong, I just haven't seen it mentioned before and would be interested to look at the source - preferably not just from a pro-Assange website)

Call him a rapist, bounce him around Europe for a while until the media interest dies down. They'll probably end up sticking a bullet in him some time. Very sad way to behave in supposedly democratic countries.

The information is my own, which I have gathered throughout the years of living in Sweden and reading news papers etc.

There are twice as many rapes per capita in Sweden than in England, four times as many as in neighbouring Finland and Norway, 20 times as many as Southern and Eastern Europe. In fact Sweden is second from top when it comes to rape statistics in the world, only Lesotho has more rapes per capita.

The successful rape conviction rate in Sweden is the lowest in Europe at 13%.

In 2008 60% of the convicted rapists were foreigners or immigrants, while they only account for 17% of the population.

Adding these facts together, there has to be plenty of rapists hiding abroad who are not to be extradited to Sweden, but then they aren't of any political interest.

Also the sexual laws in Sweden are, shall we say messed up.
A few days ago a woman was nearly raped, she was dragged in to a park and beaten, but escaped before the rape. As the woman was a transgender, the rapist is not going to be charged with rape or sexual assault, as "the rape could not have been fulfilled".

Prostitution, you can legally sell sex, but buying sex is illegal.
