I like how they say 'we will never surrender our claim to the sovereignty'.
Purleese.
Go away. It belongs to us. Always has done.
Well, st, it's not like it's the first time the tattered remains of a former empire has been disputed, is it?Purleese.

1/ It isnt 'tattered remains' .. it generates a lot of wealth
2/ it isnt 'former empire' with all the negative connotations that brings.
the Falklands most certainly is not [for example] like former African colonies such as Mozambique which were stripped bare by a colonial power and left in a wrecked state.
There were no indigenous people in the FI, the people who live there want to remain a British territory or protectorate [?] , and it hasnt been stripped bare and wrecked.
FYI - I have lived there for a year or 2

Was she on betablockers and was the presenter deliberately being a cock? It doesn't fking matter who has the historical right to be there, the UN charter says they get to decide who to be governed by because they are there already. I suspect even if it did go to the Hague or wherever the Kelpers would win anyway; IIRC it was suggested that the legal case should be tested a while back but the Argies said no. This is a resources dispute, attempting to dress it up as colonial baggage or imperialist anachronism is just so much flannel; if the oil wasn't in prospect this discussion would not be happening. As for the military presence being provocative, it's not nearly as provocative as being invaded and occupied.
On that note, I think we should be discussing the annexation of the Seychelles and Mauritius; beforewe the French settled them and we rocked up with a gunboat and ran up the Union flag they were not inhabited, so giving them independence was a ridiculous bit of 'white man' guilt tripping.

As many around the world want to draw a line under colonialism, surely we need to consider ownership of the islands as of 1763, one year before european settlement. I think that would be fair. If we then consider territorial rules to be centred on that date, everything should be rosy.
Have Chairman Obama report to the treasury with all unpaid taxes from colonial America, from 1776 onwards please , and yes, ok you can have an MP.
