Had a good search to see if this had already been covered, but couldn't find anything...

So it appears to be confirmed that this happened. It makes me feel physically sick, and also fearful that realistically the most powerful nation on earth is capable of making, and enforcing, policies such as this...

Fortunately, that's not the central government enforcing it. Sadly the "one child" policy is taking a long time to shake out of the rural provinces. I wouldn't be surprised if someone gets shot at dawn for this, they do it for less.
