Israel has a blockade of Gaza. Flotilla of Turkish ships attempted to reach Gaza with supplies, etc, and we're attacked.

Oh yes, they were condemned, but that was it.

So what, nobody else has to participate if they don't wish too. The embargo is mainly supported by the huge Cuban-American lobby who want to see their home nation and their families freed. Now, we were discussing Iran toying with blocking waterways that do not belong to them.

We were talking about condemnation... I thought the condemnation for the embargo of Cuba was quite interesting. I realise you seldom like to consider the actions of the US when condemning other nations, but we aren't all you. wink

No problem. However, this thread is about Iran and the Strait of Hormuz; any thoughts on that topic? wink

Yes. It won't work, and they won't go through with it.

I agree with you on both points, 100%.

At the narrowest point the Straits are 21 miles wide so even if they do close Iranian waters they can only do the to 10.5miles which still leave the Oman side for free navigation. The Oman authorities tend to get a little shirty with war ships arsing around at 30+ knots in their waters and kick them out.

The biggest issue is likely to be the insurance implications of a closure on the tanker industry. All it would take is 1 stray missile and a LGC to create an explosion not far from nuclear proportions.

About as wide as Dover to Calais then.

So it makes things a little hairy for the watch officer and lookouts as all the shipping is forced through a narrow section of the available space - Rather like the M4!

They are as bad as each other. Both seem itching for a conflict.
