I think their reaction to Islamic relics being destroyed would be quite humorous, I think.

Seeing they are destroying Islamic relics (it is a mosque door); is quite odd. I suppose it was not up to snuff.

It's not up to spec... Not like the big black rubic cube... Now that is genuine.

Didn't they do similar in Afghanistan before the conflict? To me, Islam seems to be the religious equivalent of a spoilt brat.

Yup... They put artillery to some rather massive cliff carvings.

Yes, they destroyed some giant and ancient Buddas (IIRC) carved into a mountainside. ETA: Beaten to it by Heretic. smile

Hopefully the people in Egypt won’t do the same.

Now that would be some severe st; hopefully, the economic, if not cultural, significance will override any radical tendencies for destroying such monuments. Besides, the aliens will be pissed at their handiwork being blown up.

Forgive my ignorance but there seem to be as many interpretations of the Quran as there are Muslims.

They (those who interpret the Quran) seem to try and out-do each other in how many different/bizarre/violent/extreme ways they can interpret the same passage/s.

Interesting that this, of all things, gets in the news while a lot more important stuff (for the past 8 months) has been happening in the region; the dispossessed touregs from Libya, the weapons movements in the region, the air-to-surface attacks on Islamist militant convoys, the occupation by AQIM/MUFAO of the northern Mali region of GAO, the two VBIEDs used against Algerian Gendarme posts in the past three months within Algeria, the massing of troops on the southern borders of Algeria/Mali and AFRICOMs involvement in the region strengthening...

In the bigger regional picture this is the equivalent of a dog pissing on a lamp-post.
