When it costs £9 billion to put on, you can hardly be surprised.
Is that still the expected total? I thought they were competing with the National Debt totalizer for most rapidly increasing figure in the universe...

Complete waste of money.

That's kind of a good general idea anyway.
Only if it included McDonalds too.
Careful...you'll have to shoot Soovy...hmmmmm.

£12bn cost to public purse is what I've read. So significantly more than that when sponsorship is taken into account.

Government currently estimates £11bn

Could almost have an aircraft carrier for that much...

I'm sure it didn't cost the ancient Greeks anywhere near this much when they invented them. Think something has gone wrong somewhere,

What about the O2 arena?

Also, is there a dress code for attending the Olympics? I'm assuming you can only wear Adidas branded clothing and nothing else? hehe

And whilst we're at it, I find it hilarious that McDonalds is the 'official restaurant' of the Olympics!

There's still one in Caerphilly, it's the only one I've seen for a long time, I often wonder if the company folded but they just didn't get the memo.

Well, every day's a school day.

Problem is your burger would be cold by the time you've driven to the Olympic Park from Caerphilly!

I've just checked and there's one in Porthcawl as well, which must be good news for someone. I don't know who, but there must be someone.

Pretty sure there's still one at Killington Lake services on the M6.

I popped in there one lunchtime expecting a take away. I left without a burger as it's a restaurant.

And no-one has been sacked or disciplined for gross misconduct.

If I'd budgeted one of my projects and been that far off I'd be in a whole world of trouble. (And I'm talking of projects in the 10s - 100s of thousands not Billions!)

You can bet there will be a massive arena for Coca Cola too, another of London Olympics Worldwide Partners with McDonalds.

Olympics - McDonalds - Coca Cola

All in the same breath. You couldn't make it up.

None of this surprises me as I sit here reminding myself to apply tank tape to a couple of 1"x2" logos on the shirts I will be wearing this weekend if I want to be allowed into Stalag Bernie. Even if you have a Golden Ticket to allow you AAA staff are instructed to turn you away at the gate for wearing branded clothing with the exception of team and a few other personel.

There was a program the other night about people cashing in on the Olympics, but not a mention of this aggressive sponsorship bks. They did mention however the diversion of 'Big Lottery' funds to the Olympics away from the needy causes across the nation. I like the Olympics but fk me there's a shed load of crap that comes with them.
