Very sad news. I really enjoyed his shows with Hattie Jacques and Derek Guyler. And he gave a great performance in Those Magnificent Men In Their Flying Machines as Terry Thomas's chauffeur. RIP.

He was still active until quite recently was'nt he...?

Very sad news, perhaps one of the true greats of British Comedy - and very underrated.

Will be fondly remembered. Had that sardonic air that fits British humour so well - seemingly resigned to getting the wrong end of the deal but gets back up and tries again.

End of an era?

RIP. Eric.

Re The Plank. PH's should spot the one eyed truck driver in the 1979 version.

Very talented Man, sadly gonna be really missed.
I heard not long ago in a rare interview with him, that he was still writing comedy sketches, but as his eyesight had gone he wrote them long hand with a pen. Unfortunately his secretary who typed them up found the last 3 pages were blank, as his pen had run out of ink. Fortunately he had pressed heavily enough for the imprint to be interpreted. Comic Genius!

Indeed. Timing, grace and the ability to make people laugh by gently stimulating their intellect, you don't get many with that nowadays.

RIP Sykes.
