Not sure if this is the correct forum for this query.

Does any one know if this fingerprinting at airports is still going on even for those on domestic flights?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1580993/Hea...

If it is then if I board a plane at Manchester direct to Nice it seems I won't be fingerprinted but if I have to fly to Heathrow or Gatwick to connect with a flight to Nice as I would if I flew British Airways, then I would be fingerprinted.

They say the prints would be destroyed after 24 hours and are not passed to police but how do we know that is true?

I recall some time ago reading that kids prints were collected at a school in order " to check what books they were reading at the library" or "to check what meals they were eating at the canteen"

There was a big fuss at the time as folks saw this as yet another method by which the state could have all of us fingerprinted.

Anyone heard or experienced anything on this?

Thanks

Unless they take good quality rolled prints of all your fingers, and include the underside of the fingers and palms, I wouldn't worry. smile

Then perhaps you should educate yourself.

A bdisation of the Joseph Goebbels quotation "If you have nothing to hide, you have nothing to fear"

Defending the erosion of privacy and civil liberties, by quoting a NAZI who was responsible for the death of millions of innocent people, is a tad telling.

Bit naive to use the old: "if you've nothing to hide" defence.

It's not about that, is it?

Anyone had their prints taken at a UK airport?

Dude, he has not quoted anyone, you seriously need to grow up, because by accusing him of this you've effetivly said that you cant say anything that someone else may have said in the past. I dont agree with what he said but it would be rediculous to associate something said by someone as quoting a Nazi just because it may have been said in the past.

Fine. So when are they installing CCTV in all of the rooms in your house?

What? That's different? What have you got to hide?

I guess we all have stuff we don't want others to see. Medical records, amount of savings held, income, political stuff etc. etc.

A set of prints are 2 sides of A4. ( more if you have big hands)
A smudged thumbprint isn't going to get anyone in trouble.

when you enter or leave the uk through an airport your passport details are recorded, what difference does it make if your identity is confirmed by fingerprint? if your passport matches your identity the government knows the same about your travel as they did before. ive been fingerprinted probably 100 times or more, i'm still not sure how my 'freedom has been eroded'?

I think the theory is that the prints are given to the police. I have no idea why though.

Bizarrely, I have no issue at all with 'A' print being taken at random when walking through check in or security and then being verified at the gate.

If I travel 12 times (I live in Glos) I assume they may get all my fingerprints?

If they do, then my lawyer (legal aid as I live in Glos) will rip them a new one?

Not sure quite what the main problem here is? You cannot hav eit both ways.....

if 'they' really wanted your prints there are easier ways of getting them!

If you've got 12 fingers then I don't think there would be much trouble identifying you anyway!

Thanks folks,

So it seems we are not fingerprinted at UK airports. Anyone know what happened to the proposals to do so as per the link in my original post?

Cheers
