Does anyone actually spend any time on the BBC website for news?

For up to date news I use telegraph.co.uk (and guardian.co.uk for the lefty view-point).

For decent financial news analysis I use zerohedge.com (or FT.com)

The very few occasions I just need junk or need to raise the blood-pressure I check thedailymail.co.uk

For all other occasions I use the news section of pistonheads for semi-reasoned debate.

The BBC website by comparison just seems like it is aimed, well at kids I guess? I'm not sure if this is part of the BBC's drive to be 'all inclusive' or general dumbing down, but there is minimal substance to the articles, and there is an significant left bias...

(Or is is just me)...

Can't say I have any problem with it, use it daily without issue and like the headline / summary format and the fact I can know what's going on in the world within a few minutes, without having to wade through reams of opinion and hyperbole, and without links to other articles about stupid celebrity trash. They do have the odd slip up, but it does a decent enough job of just delivering just the news.

Also find the BBC news apps for iPhone & Android each do a great job of handling content, better than just about any other I've used and at no cost. Can't complain really, but then I don't care to spend anymore time than the bare minimum getting up to speed on current events unless it's a major story that in some way affects me or my business - that being such a rare event, the BBC suffices in much the same way that CNN does for stuff over the pond, and Bloomberg does for money / market matters.

A perfectly good news website in my opinion. Plenty of amusing mistakes and biases but that's what I've come to expect.

Only in the UK.

Overseas has had ads for around 3 years.

Plus plenty of " not available in your area" on video content.

Might I suggest that instead of secondhand news, you look somewhere that actually employs journalists instead of TV poppets?

Given up on the BBC as soon as they started promoting bLIAR and the Guardians views. I now only go there for the sandalista take on things when I want some light relief or to get rid of constipation!
Not worth the paper they're printed on!

I disagree completely. The BBC website is my prime source of news.

The comments section terrifies me. It's worse than the Mail.

Sadly, the bbc news homepage has just dumbed down over the years; along with the majority of the bbc in general (radio 4 excepted).
And another thing that winds me up about that site - they seem to be always plugging Adele. Do they have shares in that Brit School or something? I can't be the only person to have noticed this surely?

Just download tunnel bear. Free usage each month will be enough for bbc web site and a few short videos....

Thanks for that. I'm only a commuter, not living abroad, but still looks useful.

Me too, but find it handy to watch the odd bit of tv after a long working day. If you tweet third service they give you a free gb of usage as well...

I kick off the day with a visit to BBC News and if there's an item I'm interested in I'll check out a few more news sites for their take on it, sometimes spotting something else of interest en route. I can easily spend the hour before breakfast reading the news.

I occasionally look at it, but then I don't pay anywhere near as much attention to the news as I ought to.

To be honest, I learn most of the important news on here!

My main problem with it is the 3 lines of news, and then 4 paragraphs of back story on something unrelated in anyway to the news story.
