The delightful chap that is Azhar Ahmed posted some highly offensive comments about the dead local soldiers from Huddersfield on Facebook. I think he celebrated their deaths or something equally distasteful.

http://www.examiner.co.uk/neighbourhood-news/colne...

Needless to say it provoked a huge outcry and some people replied with heated feelings. So what do the police do - well whilst the guy is still awaiting a court date for his comments (first trial got put back as someone picked up on the fact that his defence team knew the judge) they went after and charged/cautioned the people who commented in protest on his vile individuals post. These included an 11yr old boy.

The guy in Warrington got jail for commenting about the riots on facebook - lets see what this guy gets!

Although I won't hold my breath, as living in West Yorkshire there really is one rule for us and one slightly softer rule for anyone from of Pakistan origin.

No idea about this story but I am constantly surprised about the number of prosecutions recently for 'writing stuff'. Since when was 'writing the wrong thing' known to be a crime? Is this more prevalent recently?

While I'm sure the approach taken to the two sides won't be fair or equal, the people who responded weren't charged - they were cautioned. My understanding is that they are not the same thing at all.

You are right to get upset about the one-rule-for-us-different-rules-for-them culture we have, but you don't do your cause any favours by misrepresenting the facts.

And it was a 14 year old boy: "They were a 63-year-old Liversedge woman; a 19-year-old from Dewsbury; a man aged 23 from Bradford and a 14-year-old Pontefract boy"

Cautioned for “malicious communications.”, so not specifically to do with race or religion per se (unless this was the specific vehicle used in this case); but it could just have been 'you're a ':

(1)Any person who sends to another person— .
(a)a letter or other article which conveys— .
(i)a message which is indecent or grossly offensive; .
(ii)a threat; or .
(iii)information which is false and known or believed to be false by the sender; or .
(b)any other article which is, in whole or part, of an indecent or grossly offensive nature.

(I'm surprised there aren't more PH convictions! biggrin)

So no paricular sign of it being one rule for them one rule for us.

I don't have a problem with this. I expect the four cautioned responded to his status with very distasteful comments themselves. IMHO I think people should have responded like I did, by not really caring what an idiot thinks.

I remember at the time lots of outrage on my facebook (I live about 2miles from the guy so all the locals jumped on the bandwagon) complaining about how police have surrounded his house to protect him and he's wasting tax payers money. The irony being it was the idiots going to his house with their pitchforks that created the police presence.

Was the joke any good?

Pretty tasteless subject but I wish British politicians would stop trying to make us all be nice to each other. It's a bunch of idiots babbling on the internet, and unless it involved direct threats of violence then it never really should have been a police matter.

It wasn't a joke. Here's what the guy said:

"People gassin about the deaths of soldiers! What about the innocent familys who have been brutally killed.. The women who have been raped.. The children who have been sliced up..! Your enemy’s were the Taliban not innocent harmless familys. All soldiers should DIE & go to HELL! THE LOWLIFE FOKKIN SCUM! gotta problem go cry at your soliders grave & wish him hell because that where he is going.."

However offensive this is, I don't agree with the concept that you should stand trial over a non-racist political statement, just because it offends people.

That's not a joke, and hard to see why it's a police matter if that is all he said.

There have been some very unpleasant cases of rape of Iraqi and Afghan women and girls by US soldiers. Not many, but they have happened. It's happened at a big US base in Japan as well.

As regards the original story it's not a popular opinion in the UK and it's not my opinion but Ahmed's free to hold his own opinion as far as I'm concerned and what he wrote doesn't warrant death threats or whatever led to the police issuing cautions.

What makes the comments related to muslims?

I don't see anything funny about our soldiers dying.

If you want to see offensive comments, you should check out the wall of "Azhar Ahmed Scumbag" on FB. EG:

"Hooked nosed bd wog should be stoned in the middle of huddersfield"

Presumably, everyone who posts such offensive comments should also be put on trial? And this stuff is racist, unlike Azhar's original rant.
