Rumours abound that Teresa May's hubby has a significant holding of G4S shares.
I really do feel sorry for the lads. We used to get dicked for all sorts of daft things but we were far less stretched back in my day. A lot of the guys will just be back from Ops and having their leave cancelled to search handbags. It's hugely insulting.

To be fair, all the forces guys on site are doing a much more thorough and professional job than G4S ever did and are also really nice to deal with. I couldn't understand most of the instructions from G4S employees as their English was either poor or non-existent.

The forces lads will have a bit of a chunter, because they can, but they're proud of their professionalism and will do a top job - doesn't mean they want to be there. Knowing their mentality, they'll make the most of it - I'm sure a few East London boozers are going to see increased takings

"Three more degrees to the left. That's the Home Office." (Courtesy arrse)General Sir Nick Parker, commander of land forces, said he was unconcerned that the military was required to help the Olympics at short notice. General Parker said: "I am entirely comfortable with the warning time. Short notice, rapid reaction, flexibility is what we do. From my perspective, 12 hours to grab your kit and go is short notice – this is not. And let me reiterate that the feeling amongst military personnel about their involvement in the Olympics will be excitement, pride and a determination to do a good job."
Like they did in the Somme, what. I have nothing further to add to this latest debacle, as I'll start a proper full blown rant. The ARRSE thread entitled '"Sports Day" Additional 3500 troops as G4S drops the Ball (but not the bill??)' says it all.

I remember seeing the job ads a few months ago - I was tempted as I thought that might be a good way to see the olympics and get paid for it. Didn't apply as the ads stated the work was 12 hour shifts each day.

So how many troops is that in total I wonder? considering that there were already sizeable commitments of both regular and reserve forces prior to this announcement.

"The armed forces are already providing up to 13,500 personnel for the Games - split between the venues and back-up for police. Under the contingency plans, this could reach 16,500 – 7,000 more than are being deployed in Afghanistan."

This does include Navy and RAF bods for the Olympics I think - it's not just Army.
Still... daft.

The protection and security of our citizens and that of other countries is paramount at this event hence the military involvement. Good 4Sodall got the contract and they can't handle it, so it's down to the guys that can. Maybe a few eyes might get raised by this and someone starts to rethink the idea of G4S being involved in private policing.

My friend that worked as driver for cash in transit was attacked while working for g4s . After two back ops and serious underlying problems g4s offered him 2k and sacked him, even though he payed into his attack fund for longer than 4years . You do not want G4s protecting anything

...and that is how detached these people are. I can assure you that nobody is thrilled of having their already disrupted lives f***ked up even further to stand in for these morons who cannot employ people due to their pathetic pay and shoddy training / vetting procedures. I'm sure if the guys were getting paid as much as this clown, their 'tolerance' for this disruption would be somewhat different. 2 yrs left and counting, thank god.....

MP Friend - Great idea, how much more money can i have G4S CEO - 20 million sound ok? and we must chat about that other contract MP Friend - It's already sorted ;-)

G4S have had seven years to plan for this. On the radio to day their staff have been whistle blowing on a grand scale. Teresa May has stuck her head in the sand and denied there is any problem.
I hope this is the start of the wake up call for the British public about what this Government's long term aims are for British Policing.

Surrey Police have just announced they have halted plans to privatise large parts of their Force following this debacle.
However, the Government still plan to march on.
