List of banned Olympic items..
Discussion
just got back in from watching the dress rehearsal of the opening ceremony - absolutely mindblowing. Forget all your preconceptions - it is nothing like you think it is going to be.
security was red hot but they were pretty relaxed about people taking food and bags and stuff - I was surprised at how many people were taking photos and filming it. Danny Boyle said 'go ahead - just please don't put anything on youtube/twitter/facebook till after friday.
BUT if anyone is attending any events in the Olympic Park allow LOTS of time to get in and out.

If so, his position is not entirely dissimilar to mine.
Panem et circenses, panem et circenses...
In what respect am I gullible?Panem et circenses, panem et circenses...
Although the costs/benefits don't amount to a whole hill o' beans in the greater scheme of things one has to wonder why the taxpayer is subsidising high net worth individuals and foreign corporations.

Ban list seems reasonable
A can of Pepsi has 330ml... have you seem 100ml for sale anywhere? Not even a can of Fanta allowed in case it takes away a sale from tooth-rot cola at the farce.

I am going to see a sports event. I don't want to make myself substantially fatter while I do it, so water will be fine, thanks.
"substantially fatter" from a few 330ml cans of coke? are you a human?I'm healthy for my age without carrying extra weight. I exercise, and I mostly avoid sugary fizzy drinks.
Clearly one can isn't going to make a difference, but a general trend is, and that will include when I am walking around the olympic village.
If the only thing I can buy in the village is burgers and coke, I will be back on this thread joining in with all the other miserable daily mail readers, but I am optimistic that should I choose to, I can find something healthy to eat.
And beer, of course (I could kill for one)

My not entirely dissimilar position is that those that support the charade that the Olympics have become are worryingly uncritical...

I am far from uncritical thank you. I don't really think that sweeping generalisations make a good argument.Although the costs/benefits don't amount to a whole hill o' beans in the greater scheme of things one has to wonder why the taxpayer is subsidising high net worth individuals and foreign corporations.

Kerriste it's like talking to 2 year olds round here who can't parse a sentence for meaning and read everything absolutely literally. Are people like this in real life when they talk down the pub? "You could murder for a pint? You do realise that is against the law and I must report you".
based on your previous post it was hard to tell you were joking or exaggerating, besides there's always diet sodas with zero (or near enough) calorie content. mcdjl said:
Crumbs. Where's the "Faces you'd never tire of punching" thread? Oli.

I really do find myself torn between not wanting the UK to be a laughing stock if the games go badly, to wanting it to be a total utter fk up in the vain hope that people will finally realise just how far we've sold ourselves down the corporate river.
Well unlike some people on here I want some value for money from the £13bn forcibly extracted from the UK taxpayer. So I'm looking for amusement and entertainment, and some kind of 'wow' factor.
With that in mind I have fingers crossed for strikes during the games, a major G4S feck-up, gridlocked london delaying both competitors, officials and crowds, ticket scandals, guffs from the elite and the big one: I'm hoping for continuous heavy rain__ for __every single day of this sorry corporate branding event that has and is costing us dear.
I have no objection to people running round in circles and throwing things on their own time and money, but this farcical event isn't about that, it's about corporate greed, control and forcing hapless idiots into their idea of corporate utopia. Feckers.
Pray for rain. Lots of it. Every single day.
Don't like the Olympics, fine, ignore it but why hope that everyone else has a crap time.
Shameful.

If they used their own money I'd be fine with it.Don't like the Olympics, fine, ignore it but why hope that everyone else has a crap time.

Using mine, then expecting to pay some criminal ticket scam to attend - no chance.
Hope it falls flat on it's face so badly it stops the IOC from ever doing it again.
It's hubris, like anything 'Great Britain' has been involved in recently.
I live and work in central London and I can't even walk across the road on my way home because of the 'Zil' lanes.
If our under class weren't so stoned on drugs, cheap booze, crap food and Sky tv they would revolt, the only bonus for them being they haven't actually paid for it.
It's one big jolly for a few people sullied by such overt corporate messages and draconian penalties for anyone wishing to get involved in a pleasant, unified way.
That said I think the athletes are worthy, the ones not on drugs anyway...
