And how do you think it would have looked had they been put up in London hotels (bearing mind the massive price hikes currently going on), while other soldier were loosing their jobs? Its a lose/lose situation.

You're forgetting the real victim here. Mr Buckle of G4s has been struggling by on a basic salary of £830,000 before bonus and now he's probably going to lose his job soon with only a pay-off of a million or two to comfort him. It's a bloody disgrace.

If he was being paid 50k a year, would the situation have been ok? What about 100k? 250k? 500k?

That anyone is surprised there are huge cock ups on this Olympics shenanigans is the only surprise. You'll all be on here next year ranting when the press are "exposing" how the legacy of the games is a Stratford that's still a sthole and a stadium that was torn down as no one could agree what to do with it.

And how many hotels would argue with a few hundred solders, when they say we are staying here for nothing,
With the goverment behind them!

They're soldiers, compared to many places (probably all on deployment) that is luxury.

Welcome to Britains only growth industry - moaning on an epic scale about things that are nothing to do with them and which they don't actually give a toss about anyway.

Not sure anywhere would have room for a few hundred soldiers, I heard there is a fairly big event going on in London soon?

There's two cruise ships moored at London City Airport providing accommodation for "key" workers already, still time to charter another one I would have thought? The transportation for them is already there in the shape of a hundred buses or so.

Just bill G4S!

G4S need to pay dearly for this cockup, but unfortunately this is the reality of private outsourcing.

I spent a year as a security supervisor, unfortunately the adage concerning peanuts and monkeys is generally quite a truism. Wages are utterly shocking so the attendant trouble/short notice cancellation/hassle factor with the workers increases exponentially.

Of course, there were a few retired guys and otherwise great workers down on their luck who then get pulled from pillar to post covering the no-shows...

Surely they could have brought in a few decent portakabins or similar?

As indeed was Beijing, Athens, Vancouver, to name the three others I've been to. These major events are a massive corporate sponsorfest, there's nothing on this one that's new, other than most of you having never had the 'pleasure' of one before.

At least these stadiums are built. Without naming names/locations, there have been Olympics where the stadiums weren't properly complete at the opening ceremony.

I know - and it has gone too far! Using the military to comandeer hotel rooms does not move things in the right direction.

Nothing new, here prisoners accomodations are protected by criminal rights groups while soldiers sweat it out in hand dug ditches while in the field or hot cramped tents on a lucky day.
