How big a shark would you need to be able to head-mount it?

500GW is a st load (enough to power over 400 flying DeLoreans), but 1.85Mj isn't exactly impressive, not even a cup full of petrol...

I'm guessing either the power was huge for a miniscule amount of time, or that number is a bit off

ETA - Got my SI units wrong, 500 TERAwatts, fk me sideways!!

I think the batteries the size of Nevada you'll have to drag about behind it may limit it's practicality somewhat. . . . . .

It's not actually the most powerful, peak, power laser despite how many news stories say it is. There are many petawatt class lasers in the world which are several times more powerful, the RAL has several in the UK. 500 trillion watts is 0.5 petawatts. I think it's actually the worlds biggest though.

It does deliver a lot of energy, relatively, per shot. The big laser facilities love the peak power numbers because they sound mega impressive to people who don't think about how power is calculated. The pulse duration of this thing is nanoseconds. Fun toy though.

Scientists are great, I'd love to be the guy who thought up some of the stuff they do. Take this, they decided to fire a laser at nuclear material.

I've always been of the thought that a large part of scientific genius is madness.

I reckon this forum has one of the weirdest demographic mixes in existence. Everything from a huge cast who would be at home in 'The Big Bang Theory' to rabid socialists and people to the right of Atilla the Hun.

Careful or women will want to come in, then they'll change things around and get headaches. Once that happens we'll be getting powerfully built people putting threads on relationships in The Lounge..... Oh no, wait!
