Since when have buses had leather seats? No wonder we're in the mire, financially.
The bendy buses we have in Swansea have leather seats. Purple leather seats no less. I was forced onto the bus for a month or so a couple of years back when I couldn't drive on medical advice and was surprised to be greeted by the smell of leather I must confess. It makes sense when you think about it. Leather is hardwearing and can be wiped clean easily.
Aye, plus it's tasty, apparently. Is a leather bus seat the new steak for these difficult times? They could call it steak au pauvre.

We're in a double-dip recession here, you take what you can get.

Are you sure the seats weren't just vinyl and smell of leather not just old peoples piss?
